588.0. "The DIET WORKSHOP Diet." by TLE::MEDIOUNI () Thu Jul 19 1990 21:05

What is this diet about? Here's a list of things I heard:

	o it's a composite of 4 different diets; the first 3 diets
last one week each and the last diet is the one you stay on
	   till you reach your goal
o you have to take "several" vitamin tablets each day
o it requires that you eat food units that must be consumed
with specific meals and if you neglect a certain, say 'lunch
unit', you can't have it for dinner
o you can buy DW pre-packaged food, like Nutri/Systems, but that's
	   optional
o it resembles the Weight Watcher's diet

Is the above list correct? Can anyone tell me more about this diet (e.g.,
if it is 4 separate diets, how are they different, etc.)? How successful is
it (i.e., what's claimed to be the average weight-loss per week)?

Any information would be appreciated!

I went on the Diet Workshop diet about 3 years ago, give or take,
and I lost 16 lbs. The diet weeks were as you described, which
wasn't bad, you could add things as you went along, yes, you can
take the tablets (vitamins) and can eat the cookies inbetween
meals (you have to count them of course).

I enjoyed the DW diet much better than Weight Watcher's, I didn't
lose a lb. on WW and I was good.

Good luck, let me know what you decide.

    Hi,

I don't know a whole lot about the diet, all I know is that my
sister-in-law is doing it now and absolutely loves it!! She's lost 12
pounds in about a month and now she and my brother are doing it
together....he doesn't even really need to lose weight but they've
decided use the diet forever...because it's a real healthy way to eat
and there is always so much you can eat and never feel deprived, which
is one thing that makes people go off alot of diets. Anyway, they
swear by it and they are trying to get me to do it...except that I've
lost 10 pounds on my own by just cutting down and exercising so I'll
just stick to my own thing for now....

Anyway, I'd give it a try if I were you!

    Good Luck!!

Is there any way to follow this diet when you live in Germany, like I
    do ?
Are there certain things which I have to follow and can I make
this diet without the package you can buy in USA ?

Would really be happy to get some suggestions here.

    Thanks in Advance

    To answer 588.0 questions...

The diet consists of one diet but you add each week. The first week is
the core diet this is what you will eat the rest of your life. The
second week is the core booster which is a few more different foods to
add to your list and third week is the lifestyle which means you have
the core and many different foods which you may count in daily which
you are used to eating. i.e. pizza, Burger King, MacDonalds, Angel
food cake, baked beans, Dairy Queen, TCBY etc. etc. (all the places you
    visit and feel guilty about!!)

They encourage you to take vitamins, whether theirs or store bought,
but not necessary to buy theirs. They also have diet tabs which are
all natural vitamin B supplements which help curb hunger. They suggest
    8 a day, I take 2 to 3 and they help.

They want you to eat properly therefore 3 meals a day that is the
reason that you cannot "make up" a meal at another time. The reason
for this is to keep the metabolism working properly. If we don't feed
our body properly then it says "metabolism slow down, this dude is
starving us." Then it doesn't process the calories and everything else
    in the proper fashion.

Yes you can buy some of their foods it you wish. I buy their candy,
and cookies which I find as a nice treat and gets me through. Their
barbecue sauce it great too. What I like it that their products are
made with sugar so we are not subjected to the artificial sweetners.

It resembles the WW diet but I find I'm in much better control of
myself because I know exactly what to eat and I don't have to think
about substitutes. There are no substitutes, dairy is dairy, bread
products are bread, Veg. are Veg and fruit is fruit. Anything extra is
extra. You are allowed 1 - 4 extra's a day if you are female. More for
male and teens, but I don't know what that is, probably 1 or 2 more.

The emphasize drinking of plenty of water (8 to 10 glasses a day) and
at least 30 min of some kind of arobic exercise 3 times a week. I do
    brisk walking.

I feel great and I hope you will too if you decide to join. By
following the above I was able to lower my Cholestorol in 3 months from
    264 to 204.

    Good luck

588.6Diet Workshop at the Mill!HAVOC::MYOUNGFri Aug 10 1990 22:0810
I found out that a Diet Workshop class was starting a new session at
the Mill and I joined yesterday. The diet looks very healthy and
flexible enough to be realistic and strict enough to help with control.

I believe official registration for the class is next week. The
program runs for eight weeks at a time.

    Regards,

Does anyone happen to know that the cost of joining Diet Workshop is?
It sounds good, but I'm thinking it's probably a lot more expensive
    than weight watcher's etc..

    Does anyone know??

    Thanks!
