580.0. "Jenny Craig vs Nutri/System" by USWAV1::CURTIN () Tue May 08 1990 13:50

There have been several lawsuits filed against NutriSystems for
wrongful deaths and gall bladder attachs. Has anyone heard of
similar complaints against JC? If not, has anyone heard why someone
would have ill-effects on one program and not the other? They both
    seem so similar.

I've heard from one of the counselors at JC that they haven't had
any complaints against them. His unofficial theory is that the
people who are having gall bladder problems on NutriSystems might
be "weight cycling". The NutriSystem plan has very little fat
in the diet and if a person then starts eating lots of fat, it
can cause problems. This is speculation of course. JC food, on
the other hand, is 20% fat. Also, it's mostly frozen, canned, or
dry food, whereas NutriSystem has a lot of freeze-dried stuff.
I don't know if that makes a difference, but there's something
about a freeze-dried hamburger that sounds bogus. The point is
that the food doesn't seem to be all that similar from what I've
heard. Maybe somebody's out there who has done both?

Watch the news. I don't know all the facts, however, many diet
programs are in Washington this week appearing before the Food &
Drug Administration (?) supporting their fast weight loss programs
with facts(?). They (Washington) are reviewing all the supporting
data in order to decide if these programs are bogus or truly
legitimate. It was the law suits against certain diet programs that
spurred this action from our Washington Bureaucrats to do a full
investigation. If some of these people begin to disappear from
advertising on tv, we'll know who won and who did not.

    Logical?

I have said this before... somewhere in the optifast not, I think.
Anyway, gall bladder problems are nothing new with
nutrasystem. My mom had the problem after optifast and I
have heard of people who had problems after Weight Watchers.

Any big change in weight makes you more susceptible to
    gallbladder problems.

580.4Lots of law suits ahead for Nutri-Systems!WMOIS::MPELHAMThat one gets 2 snaps up & a circle!Mon May 14 1990 19:1416
According to Saturday Night w/Conni Chung, There are (I forgot how
many) reported cases of Law suits to Nutri-Systems due to Gall Bladder
failure and removal related problems from the Nutri-Systems program.
One of the cases reported was a 13 year old girl who by law shouldn't
even have been allowed to join! She had to have her gal bladder (sp)
removed because of complications. Since the reports on the Conni Chung
show, they had over 700 other similar cases from Nutri-System clients
call in and tell their stories.

When Conni Chung interviewed the head Doctor and the President of
Nutri-Systems they answered every question w/the same answer. They
would not directly answer the questions asked! Looks like
Nutri-Systems is one of the less healthier diets out there!
