| Colorado Springs Profast ---
My doctor, Dr. Douglas Clark, is one of the people who is involved with
the Profast program. When I went to see him for help with my weight
problem, he and I discussed Optifast and Profast. They are both very
similar (and equally expensive). He only mentioned Optifast to me
because Profast at the time (this was in April of this year) was not
yet started. He seemed to want me to wait for Profast to open if in fact
the fasting diet was to be the alternative we chose but only because he would
be involved with it and was interested in helping me. Profast's office is
right next door to Dr. Clark's office. He didn't push it on me, just
told me a little bit about it. As it turned out I decided to forgo the
fasting diet and wanted to do things on my own. I do go into Dr. Clark's
office every week tho to get weighed and have my blood pressure checked.
He'll review the results and then calls me at work the next day! The guy is
really terrific. I'm really glad now that I decided not to go the fasting
route -- Profast or Optifast. I'm loosing weight a lot slower than I
would have if I was fasting of course but I kinda like it this way. It
makes me feel more confident that I'm going to keep it off forever.
I have gotten to the point that I don't really feel like I'm dieting
anymore. I have changed my eating style so completely that it's just the
way things are now. It's very comfortable and my mindset is that this
is the way things will always be. Beyond my new eating habits tho is the
more important aspect for me and that is the exercising. I've worked
out a routine on my stationary bike in my basement now that I do almost
every night. I've worked my way up from barely being able to ride for
10 minutes (thinking I was going to die at the end) to 40 minutes (going
about 12.5 miles now) and feeling reallllly good when I'm done!! Now that's
visible progress!! My weight? -- down 29 pounds as of this morning -- 71 to
go until goal!! One more thing -- I've been on a plateau for about 2 weeks.
I've been telling myself it was OK (hard to do sometimes) because I've been
doing so well on the exercising... Well this morning it paid off. I put
on a skirt that I haven't worn in three years and it fit great!! The
scale just doesn't always show your progress. Since my wardrobe consists
or a multitude of sizes, I use it as my main feedback!
Back to the subject of the note -- If you want to check out Profast I can
definately recommend Dr. Clark and his involvement in the program. It's
nice to know that people like him are behind you when your looking for
help!

| Tina (re .2),
I call it my Cheap and Easy (well sometimes) diet. It's taken
me a long time to start it cuz mainly it's working from internal
self talk/self motivation...
When I talked to my doctor about starting a diet and he
mentioned Profast or OptiFast, he also told me all
the stuff we've all heard a million times about a balanced diet
and exercise, etc. Everything I should do that I knew I should
do but lacked the motivation to do it... My second child just
turned 11 months and I was slowly creeping up to my highest
pregnancy weight!! I stopped 18 pounds away from my all time
high weight that I was when I was 8 1/2 months pregnant!!
So it took me 11 months to stop the trend and start taking
care of myself.
I am exercising 4 times a week (trying to anyway). I have a
stationary bike (DP Air-GOMETER, I think it's called, really
a nice one anyway) and I'm now up to 13.5 miles in 45 minutes.
My eating program includes about 1400 calories a day (more or
less on occasion) and when I started, I was using the Richard
Simmons Deal-A-Meal to help me keep track of the number of
protions and distribution of meats, breads, fats, etc. Now
that I've been doing this a while, I pretty much just know what
I can/can't eat and how much, etc.
My doctor has also given me an appetite suppresant called Tenuate
Dospan, 75mg. He gives me 20 tablets for 20 days and then keeps
me off of them totally for about the next 14 or so days. He says
that they are more effective that way (not using them consistantly).
They works pretty well, even if it's simply physological. I stop
by his office once a week to have my blood pressure checked and
to weigh in. Then he calls me the next day or so to cheer me
on. It really helps being *accountable* to someone in this way.
Now this may sound really silly but I was also listening to sublimal
programming tapes at night for the first month or so to *re-program*
myself. I'd listen to one on exersising and one on weight control.
I don't listen to them every night anymore, but do every once in a
while still. I really think they helped! I was so desparate to
totally change my way of thinking/living/eating that I would try
anything (within my budget). The tapes are very relaxing and I
really enjoy them as I'm falling asleep at night. One side is just
talking and positive statements and imaging. The other side is
exactly the same except subliminal and masked with either the sound
of the ocean or soft music. Whatever works, I say!!
As of this morning, I'm down 32 pounds since I started about three
months ago. (Down 50 if we talk about top preggo weight, but let's
not.) My goal is to loose 68 more (I'm 5'6" tall - medium to large
bone structure). I'll be at 130 when I reach goal somewhere by next
summer. (Okay do the math, but I'd rather speak in relative to start
or goal than to admit starting weight so that was a big step for me
to actually let someone figure it out!!)
Good luck to everyone out there who's fighting this war of weight.
I tell myself that the wrong kind of food is my mortal enemy. The
refrigerator is my battle ground. **I am fighting for my life**.
I'll continue to eat the right kinds of foods forever!
This is a war that I'm going to win!!
