433.0. "Some encouragement is needed" by COOKIE::WILCOX (Database Systems/West) Thu Apr 13 1989 05:06

OK, time for me to ask for help. In the last 3 weeks I've managed to
gain 12.5 pounds. I blame it on me, no one forced the 5 doughnuts
into me this morning and no one forced me to eat chocolate cheesecake
at the Country Gourmet last week. I know all the tricks to use when
travelling on company money, but decided to ignore them.

Here is what I've done to get back on track, what I need from you
is a note of encouragement:

1. Went back to WW tonight to face the music (missed last weeks's meeting)
2. Co-erced (sp) a fellow worker into going with me because she and I are
usually partners in crime in that we've been known to stop at Plush
Pippen for pie on the way home from WW. Figured we both needed to get
   back on track.
3. Prepared my lunch for tomorrow to bring to the doughnut-filled seminar
I've been in the past two days.
4. Made a giant tossed salad to last several days.
5. Began filling out my food diary with tomorrow's meals
6. Planned tomorrow's breakfast and dinner and did some preliminary
   chopping, etc. of needed ingredients.
7. Made some "legal" corn muffins for variety in the bread department.
8. Wrote this note. I find so much help here.

Thanks much!

Liz

    Liz,

you certainly do know all the right moves. What else do you need?
How can I help? Want to join me for lunch? I'll slap your wrists
if you start grabbing the doughnuts, but only if thats what YOU
want. Don't feel guilty at your desire to eat good tasting things.
We all like doughnuts and chocolate cheesecake. Do get mad at that
part of you thatconstantly wins out over the thin eating, healthy,
rational, person. Both those and many more are inside. You alone
can control the various parts of you. Get tough!! Control you body!!

I know you can do it. You have a lifetime to prove that to yourself.

    Joel

Hang in there Liz, take it one day at a time. You have incredible
courrage and strenght to go back after this relaps (sp?). Just
channel this energy in a positive way, with that kind of will power
you should be able to stay on track.
                                          Good Luck, Lucie

433.3me too, me too!HPSRAD::LEWISThu Apr 13 1989 13:4612
Gee, you took the words right out of my mouth. I, too, haven't been
staying on the straight and narrow WW path and plan to starting
immediately -- well, maybe Saturday, after the meeting. I had
considered taking a few weeks off and starting again in May, but your
testimonial as to what can happen in a few weeks is enough to get me
    going again --

    Thanks!

    Sue

433.4Here's to Success!CECV01::KELLEYThu Apr 13 1989 15:1520
I had a bad week two weeks ago and gained 5 1/2 pounds. I lost
2 1/2 of it this past week. I too made my lunch, decided on dinner
a day in advance, etc. One thing I think that helped was I added
a little extra excercise, not so much for the toning, although that's
good too, but for the mental benefits. Sometimes extra excercise
will make you feel better about yourself and will give you a little
extra incentive: "I've worked so hard I would hate to blow it on
    a donut."

You seem to have a sweettooth problem: Feed that sweettooth the
right way, don't ignore it. Pull out your Weight Watchers cookbook
or receipe sheets and make something sweet AND legal, then you can
really enjoy it!!! Don't make a large batch of anything until you
feel back in control, but do make a single or double serving of
    something you like.

Good luck! You caught yourself before you had a big problem on
your hands, it takes courage to go back to WW after a bad week or
two so just going to that meeting was a success!

433.5Group weight-loss! It works!!!DELNI::LANEThu Apr 13 1989 15:2420
    Hi!

What we have done here in my group is to get a bunch of people
"who want to lose weight" together. We meet every Monday at 12:00
and exchange ideas and tips. There are six of us in the group.
It's not run on the WW idea (although there are 2 girls that do
go to that also). We also put $$$ on it! It's surprising what
a motivator $50.00 is! In my case I said that I could lose 15 pounds
in 8 weeks. (Everybody has their own goal). At the end of eight
weeks I actually lost 21 pounds! All but two girls missed their
goals. They lost their money and the rest of us split it! I know
that money seems like a tacky motivator but it really worked! I'm
now doing it again for another 6 weeks. My goal is 6 pounds. As
a group, from the six of us, we lost a total of 84 pounds! It really
helps knowing that your other five friends are doing the same thing
as you during the week. It's a riot because we all pass each other in
the cafe getting our salads and water! Try it!

Thanks so much to all of you! I made it thru today with nary a doughnut
slipping through my lips! Sometimes it takes just one day to convince
myself I can do it!

Thats the spirit! We all have our "bad days"......

433.8Another day, no doughnutsCOOKIE::WILCOXDatabase Systems/WestFri Apr 14 1989 19:4614
Ta-da, and yet another day is going by ON PROGRAM! And with free cookies
available, no less.

I treated myself to the newest WW cookbook today, purchased with a
gift certificate, so didn't cost me a cent. Actually, there's even
a story behind that. I won it from one of the HMOs when they gave
their dog-and-pony shows here during open enrollement. Well, I had
my choice of taking it at a bookstore or at a restaurant. I was
quite proud of the choice I made.

Thanks again for all the words of encouragement!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I've lost 20 pounds since
February '89 and now I am working on the last 30. Several members
of my department are involved in weightloss/toning. Lunchtime seems
to be very tough, so several of us go walking for an hour two or
three times a week. It really helps the morale and the body. By the
time our walk is finished, everybody is too "revved up" to care
about eating much of anything, and then it is only 'healthy stuff'.

Nothing better than moral support from your buddies. Let's all hang
in there and look great for the rest of '89.
