383.0. "Flavorful drink?" by FDCV16::FONTAINE () Mon Dec 19 1988 14:01

    Hi everyone.

I am seriously considering starting the Opti-fast program. I have
read alot of notes in here about this program, but not one person
said anything about the taste of the drink during the 12 weeks of
fasting. Could anyone help me out here. If this tastes disgusting
I'm not so sure I can do it since I have a sensitive stomach.

    Thanks

Note 380.* is about someone who is beginning the Opti-fast program.
He is charting his progress in that note. Note 380.7 mentions
something about the taste of the "shakes". I'm sure you can get
some more specific info from him.

The taste is not bad, definitly better than what you would expect.
There is a trick or two to a better taste. The first is using a
blender to mix. Iwent out to Sears this weekend and bought for 19.95
a nifty hand held blender. It mixes a real yummy frothy shake and
is easy to clean and take with me where ever I go. I have a regular
blender at home that will make a shake with the consisitandcy of
a frozen margurita, just add a little rum extract and party. The
extracts are the second hint. A drop or two can really change and
    wake up the taste.

If you want a taste and are near MKO give me a buzz on the tele.

I seem to recall that the aquaintance who was on Opti-fast last year
added Equal to the shakes. She also used a tupperware Quick Shake
container to blend them (at least at work).

I started a program a few weeks ago that seems to be identical to
Opti-Fast without the "brand name" on the packets. The chocolate
flavor is, in my chocoholic opinion, WONDERFUL! I mix it with a
Diet Coke and about 1/2 tsp of chocolate extract, and it tastes
like a Coke float...mmmmmmmm, good! Warning -- the Tupperware Quick
Shake will explode all over your desk and walls if you mix it with
a Diet Coke (or other carbonated beverages) at work!

The vanilla doesn't taste too bad when it's doctored up with a Diet
Shasta Strawberry or Black Cherry soda and a little bit of strawberry
extract, but the chocolate still wins.

You might try mixing the Opti-Fast with Canada Dry Orange
Seltzer, then mix the daylights out of it in a blender.

Speaking as an Opti-Fast alumnus, I tried to avoid adding
more and more flavor to the Opti-Fast stuff. It tasted OK
for me, and I wanted to get away from the old pattern of
using food as entertainment. Just mix the stuff and down it,
then get on with your life.
