367.0. "True confessions" by COOKIE::WILCOX (No more new notes) Fri Nov 04 1988 16:10

I have to make a "true confession" here.

I followed someone's advice from this file and bought all the
Halloween candy I didn't like. That was great, I didn't eat
ANY of it. Well, Wednesday, one of the people I work with
brought in their leftovers. I mean, he had the GOOD STUFF!

So, there I was, eating a chewy carmel when what should happen?
One of the caps on my front teeth fell off!!! I laughed like
crazy - I deserved it!!!!

Well, guess that put me back on program quickly!!

Liz, I did the same thing---bought Halloween candy that I didn't
like (My husband even asked me why we had such "yucky" candy this
year!) But, with all the candy people brought into work, plus the
candy I stole (What an awful Mommie!) from my son's pumpkin, I was
really out of control this week. I'd eat one little-size (delicious!)
Milky Way and then figure, "well I blew my diet, I guess I'll eat
spaghetti for dinner!", etc., etc., etc.,......

I seem to be doing okay now but it's sure been a tough week!

367.2PIZZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!CADSE::SPRIGGSDarlene..Making Music ALL THE TIME!Thu Nov 10 1988 14:5218
Well, after doing so well for 4 days on my new eating plan, I
broke down and ate a bag of dipsy doodles. Okay, no big deal, just
get back on track for dinner, right? Wrong. I then proceeded to
eat 4 slices of pizza and carrot cake with cream cheese frosting
for dinner. I don't even like cream cheese frosting! Okay, all
is not lost, get some aerobic exercise in. I fell asleep. Anyway,
my body did not appreciate the change in diet and I felt very sick
this morning. I'm about to go for my walk (which I haven't done
for two days) and I feel much better.

Even though I am confessing, I really don't feel guilty. Having
pizza was something I really wanted. Next time, (if I weaken again)
I will limit my slices and make sure I eat fruit or something before
ordering a large pie for two people.

    On the road again...

Darelene, don't (I repeat don't!) order a large pizza even for
two people on the premise that you can have left-overs! Its
much too difficult not to *finish up those last slices* while
the other person is eating. Order a small pizza and salad, that
way you can have one piece, satisfy your craving, and eat your
salad while the other person polishes off the rest of the pizza.

I finally realized the only way I could control what I eat of
high appealing foods (like pizza!) was to control the amount
    set in front of me!

For the same reason, I won't eat buffet sytle anymore. If we go
to a buffet, I order off the menu (sigh, it *does* work however...)

    Hang in there!

367.4My answer to Pizza attacks!!THOTH::MCNEILThu Dec 01 1988 18:1530
I too have a weakness for Pizza....
Its one of my favorite foods and I don't think I could live without
    the stuff.
What I found that helped me when I was really dieting heavy was
the "weight watchers" frozen pizzas... They are really very good,
    and only approx 300 calories...

I know they are not as good as the "real" thing....but they do the
trick for me. I like them very much, and in fact I had a few people
hanging around the microwave today wondering what smelled so good.
(It was my WW pizza!!) I have not been dieting very heavily lately,
but WW pizza always stays in my freezer.

I lost 20 lbs this summer and have been able to keep it off so far...
(up and down one or two here and there..but...) so now I am able
to eat regular "fattenting" pizza every once in awhile sparingly.

But the WW pizzas have saved me quiet a few nights!!

Just say to yourself that when youget the craving for pizza...the
only kind you will allow yourself to have is the WW...and thats
    that!

(One of my little tricks were to cut it into 8 small pieces so it
feels like you have more to eat....I would growl when my boyfriend
would try to steal even ONE piece!!! He learned!)

367.5eat only the toppings?????MRVAX::CHENMon Dec 05 1988 18:188

I am one of those people who order a LARGE pizza for two. And I
always fight for the last piece with the other person. Lately,
I have been trying to cut down the amount I eat for dinner, so
I divide the pizza in 1/2 and eat only the toppings. Is that
better than eating 1/4 of the pizza???? Dr. Mike Z???

I don't think I'd find just eating the toppings all that satisfying. I
think the cheese is the real killer with pizza.

With that in mind, if breads are your downfall, the Moosewood Cookbook
has a recipe for zucchini crust pizza that's quite good. You still have
to ration the cheese, but other than that it's mostly veggies.

367.7bread is nutritious and low in fatANT::ZARLENGASee 'Above The Law'. GREAT flick.Tue Dec 06 1988 02:5715
.5> I divide the pizza in 1/2 and eat only the toppings. Is that
.5> better than eating 1/4 of the pizza????

It depends on how oily the crust is and what the toppings are.

Pizza crust is usually very low in fat. Toppings like cheese,
sausage, pepperoni, and olives are high in % of calories from fat.

So, if your crust isn't oily, and if your toppings are like
those listed above, you're eating more fat by eating the toppings
    and not the crust.

367.8Pizza Bones anyone?COOKIE::WILCOXNo more new notesTue Dec 06 1988 13:104
I personally LOVE pizza crust! However, one of my friends does not
like the edges of it so she saves them for her dogs. She calls them
pizza bones! I love it!
