347.0. "Watches that Measure Heart Rate" by SOFBAS::RHODES () Fri Aug 12 1988 16:02

Timex just came out with a new watch for women called Aerobix.
It has a button on it that, when pressed, takes your pulse for 10
seconds. Then, you multiply the result by 6 to get your heart rate.

I'm aware that many of these types of watches are out on the market,
especially for runners. One problem with these watches is that
you must be at rest when you take your pulse. Another problem is
that you have to hold down the button the whole time while you're
    taking the reading.

My question is: Are any of these watches worth the money? Has
anyone used one? Do they work?

I know they come in a wide range of prices from about $20 to about
$200. I'm wondering if the cheaper ones are worth the price.

If you look in the ad section of a magazine tailored to
runners, you'll find a pulse watch with a small collar that
goes around a finger and is attached to the watch with a thin
    wire.

With this watch, you can see your pulse anytime. I borrowed
one of these last month and it worked good for me. They cost
    around $60.

Do you know the brand name of this watch?

    Thanks.

I checked through last month's American Health and Shape for
the ads I've seen before in Runner's World. I couldn't find them.

Maybe stop by a library or bookstore and breeze through a
running magazine and jot down the company's name, address, and
    telephone #.

Now some 18 months further on. I have been looking for something here.

Are there any watches now on the market in the States that take a
constant pulse reading and not wrap around the chest.

Brands, places to buy, approx prices, etc. please.
