343.0. "HELP - WEDDING ONLY 2 WEEKS AWAY!!!" by SUBURB::WILLIAMSC () Wed Aug 10 1988 13:13

Can anyone help?

    I am getting married in two (2) weeks time and am desperately
    trying to lose some more weight.

    I am 5ft 2in tall and weight 133 pounds

    I have been trying since January to lose weight and have
    reduced my weight from 153 pounds to 133. I still need to
    lose around 10 pounds (for the wedding) and cannot seem to
    shift them.

    I drink about 8 10oz glasses of water per day. No tea, coffee
    etc and do not add salt to my meals.

    I do aerobics twice a week and eat a sensible well balanced diet
    of 1000 calories.

    Has anyone got any ideas??

    After the honeymoon I will be continuing to lose weight to reach
    my target weight of 120 pounds.

343.1Gum surgery did it for me!PMROAD::SWEENEYWed Aug 10 1988 13:3225
Well, Collette, you could always do what I did to lose about 10 pounds
real fast....a week before I got married almost 6 years ago I had to have
emergency surgery on my gums and couldn't eat anything! When I would
come out of the hazy sleeps, my dad would give me a shake that he made -
always something different and I never asked what was in them - I think
stuff like ice cream and eggs and fruit or something like that. The first
'real' food I ate was at the rehearsal dinner - my mother made lasagna
and I sort of gummed the soft noodles. Not a fun way to get rid of the
weight, especially right before wedding day. And it didn't stay off
very long either. But it sure was nice to see the scale say 120 for the
first time since I was probably 10 years old.

The only serious thing I could recommend is to eat lots of vegies, 2 or
3 fruits a day, lay off the red meat, watch the fats, don't cut out
the breads and starches - have 2 or 3 a day, and keep up the water and
aerobics. But most of all RELAX. If I hadn't been so 'out of it' the
week before my wedding, I would have been a nervous wreck and would have
eaten everything in sight. Then my dress would have been too tight
instead of hanging on me!

Good luck and let us know how you do.

Susan

    Try a balanced, low-cal program, as was suggested in -1. If you
    stay with fish for protein, the weight might come off fast for
    a while, because there is so little fat in MOST fish. Weightloss
    clinic tells me not to eat Bluefish, Mako shark, and some other
    fish I can't remember, due to the fat content. Whatever you decide,
    please don't try to "crash" diet; you wouldn't want to sick for
    your wedding, would you?

343.3My experience...MARKER::K_WILSONWed Aug 10 1988 17:5023
    Just thought I'ld put in my 2 cents. I got married a year ago,
    August 29, 1988 and my main concern was to be THIN on my wedding
    day! How I got there didn't matter. I joined WW 1 year before
    my wedding but didn't stick with the program long enough to get
    there. About 4 months before the wedding I panicked! I had started
    out at 162 lbs (I'm 5'8") and wanted to be 130-135 lbs on my wedding
    day. Four months before the wedding I had only gotten down to 148-150
    lbs. I started running 5 miles EVERY DAY and eating 1 meal a day.

    Two weeks before the wedding I got sick (I Wonder Why???) and got
    down to 140 lbs in a few days. By my wedding day I was 137 lbs.
    It felt good to be thin at that time, but when I can back from the
    honeymoon I was 150 lbs!! I went down to 145 then just ate my way
    up to 160 within 3 months!!

    The moral of this long story is don't risk your health for one THIN
    day! I'm still fighting the 160 mark (I joined WW 3 weeks ago)
    and I know I have screwed up my system by falling into the yo-yo
    syndrome over the last 10 years. Eat sensibly and feel good on
    your wedding day! If the dress fits...

    Good Luck!!!

re .0

	By definition (almost) every bride is BEAUTIFUL. Your fiancee loves
you just as you are (were). Your wedding will be one of the most memorable days
of your life. The extra few pounds will not be noticable with all the lace,
flowers, tears, and emotions. You've got plenty of 'important' things to worry
about in the next 2 weeks. It sounds like your program (1000 cal/day, aerobics,
lots of water) is sensable and except for this plateau has been working for you.
Keep it up. As in re .1 & .2 don't make yourself sick for your honeymoon. Not
being at some goal on your scale will not be remembered 20 years from now, being
sick on your wedding/honeymoon will never be forgotten.

			Congratulations on your wedding,

343.5Feel good about yourselfMSDOA1::MCMULLINThu Aug 11 1988 13:2410
    When I got married three years ago, I weighed 133 lbs and I'm 5'2".
    Since I had previously weighed 158 lbs, I felt wonderful just being
    at 133 although I could have still lost another 10 to 15 lbs to
    be "thin". But, everyone (including my hubby) kept telling me how
    wonderful I looked, how pretty my dress was, etc., etc. The moral
    of this story is....be happy that you have lost as much weight as
    you can by your wedding day and enjoy it, because it will be one
    of the most memorable days in your life. Don't ruin it by wishing
    you were 2 or 5 or 10 lbs thinner.

	If you do decide to crash diet, be sure you take a vitamin and
    mineral supplement.

343.7THANKS FOR THE ADVICESUBURB::WILLIAMSCThu Aug 18 1988 11:4220
    Thanks for all the advice and help. Having read and re-read all
    the suggestions I have decided not to worry about reducing my
    weight for "the big day".

    Instead I am concentrating on maintaining the weight I am now.
    If I lose some weight I won't mind but equally as long as I
    do not put on any weight I will be happy.

    I will let you all know how the day/honeymoon went and also
    whether I manage to maintain my weight during the honeymoon.

    I am going to Spain and will probably become a water baby for
    the two weeks. So if nothing else happens at least I will be
    toning up the body and maybe burning off the excess calories I
    will be eating during the day.

    Will keep you all posted, and thanks again for the good advice.

343.8Walking !NRADM::SWARTZMon Aug 22 1988 19:5020
	I would suggest walking. Although at this time since the
	wedding is about one week away you won't lose much more
	than 1/2 to 2 pounds in a week by adding some walking to
	your day (assuming caloric intake stays the same). But you
	will FEEL slimmer. Walking tones the muscles up. I have
	noticed that when I am not exercising the muscles feel
	"limp" and I feel like I weigh more than I really do. By
	doing some walking everyday the muscles are strenghened
	and one feels slimmer. Also the walking will help you
	feel more alert during the day. Walking somehow balances
	or harmonizes the body. Thus the stresses and tensions
	you may feel before the big day can be dissipated by
	doing some walking. How much walking you do depends on
	your level of fitness. However, possibly three miles
	each day at 16 to 17 minutes per mile would probably be
	reasonable.

343.9THE WEDDING, HONEYMOON & WEIGHT WERE OKSUBURB::WILLIAMSCMon Sep 12 1988 10:1714
    Hi folks

    Well the Wedding went perfectly. I did not bother about losing
    weight, just maintained the weight I had achieved. The honeymoon
    was great, came back with a super sun tan (great - especially as
    I have auburn hair and fair skin) and to cap it all I only gained
    4lbs in weight.

    Should not take long to shift that once I get back to aerobics.

    Again, thanks for all your help and support.
