336.0. "Sybervision's Weightloss Prog" by CIVIC::WEBER () Mon Aug 01 1988 20:13

    Hi,

    Saturday while I was killing time I caught a program on weightloss
    by a company called cybervision. Has anyone done this program? If
    so can you speak to it?

    Hi Nancy,

    I told you I would get back on the tapes.....well I've been listening
    and working the workbook and find them very helpful. The whole
    system is to educate the user on proper foods and the importance
    of exercise (moderate) for weightloss. I feel it was a good investment
    for me!

    Topic 111 is about this program and I suggest you read the notes in
    that topic. I have had the tapes for a couple of years, but I have not
    been consistent in implementing the program. I am *very* sold on the
    concept: it makes a lot of sense to me. I guess the spirit is willing,
    but the flesh is weak.

    Lately, I have resolved to get back on the bandwagon with this program.
    I'll let you know, if I get results.

    Hi-

    Can you tell me how long the Sybervision Tapes took to arrive??
    I also just ordered it and am looking forward to it with great
    anticipation and hope. Can you tell me more about this program??

    Thanks-

336.5SYBERVISION=FIT FOR LIFE!NYEM1::MJOHNSONmmm...it's deliciousTue Sep 27 1988 20:4617
    I've been on the Sybervision program for 4 weeks (and without
    exercising for the recommended 30+ minutes a day) I have lost 2
    inches off my waist and 5 lbs. My brother has been on the program
    for 5 weeks and has lost 7lbs (again without exercising daily).

    The program works! I eat more now than I have ever in my life and
    am more concious of my food choices at each meal. I only eat when
    I'm hungry and snack when I'm hungry too. There are days when I
    make incorrect food choices that don't support my goal but I no
    longer feel guilty about them and realize that it will take me
    longer to reach my goal because of them but I will reach it.

    Why I am able to follow this program is because of the approach
    used (nutrion education and how the body reacts to certain foods).
    It's logical, uncomplicated and fun to put into practice on a daily
    basis.

336.6Back on the bandwagon!RIPPLE::KOTTERRIRich KotterMon Oct 24 1988 15:2039
    I'm happy to report that I've finally gotten myself going on this
    program again and so far I've lost 6 pounds in the past two weeks (30
    more to go)!

    The elements of this program:

    1- Your body has a 'set point' - a weight level that your body will
    fight to maintain. If you go on a diet and you will lose weight, but
    your body will fight to get it back. Long term success can only be
    achieved if you lower your set point.

    2- Unfulfilled hunger is bad - it causes temporary weightloss, but
    works against you in the long run by raising your set point.

    3- Eat whenever you are hungry, but not when you are not hungry. Eat
    until you are satisfied, but not until you are over-full. Listen to
    your body's natural signals as to when and how much to eat.

    4- Eat as much as you want, but watch what you eat. Cut down on fat and
    refined carbohydrates (anything made with sugar or white flour). These
    things work to raise your set point. Americans consume about 40% of
    their calories as fat. Cut this to about 20%. The program has
    guidelines on how to do this.

    5- The *most* important thing to do to lower your set point is an hour
    of aerobic exercise a day. I've been taking long walks with my wife.

    6- Cut out all pop, including diet pop. It will raise your set point.
    Drink at least 6 glasses of water per day.

    7- Work on developing a mental image of what you want to be like, and
    how you will feel when you get there.

    Hopefully I can stick with it and lose the other 30!

    Regards,
    Rich

    How does diet pop raise your "set point"?

336.8Set pointRIPPLE::KOTTERRIRich KotterTue Oct 25 1988 17:5037
    Re: Note 336.7 by USMRM7::HEDE

> How does diet pop raise your "set point"?

    According the program, set point is changed by various factors:

    Factor			Change
    ------                      ------
    Exercise			Down
    Eating till overfull	Up
    Not eating when hungry	Up
    Eating when not hungry	Up
    Drinking water Down (Instead of other drinks)
    Complex carbohydrate intake	Down (Fruits, Vegetables, Grains)
    Refined carbohydrate intake	Up (Sugar & White Flour based foods)
    Fat intake			Up

    Not only do the last two cause the set point to rise, but they also
    have the effect of causing you to crave more of them.

    So how does diet pop fit in? The culprit is the artificial sweeteners.
    According to their research, your body cannot tell the difference
    between real sugar and artificial sweeteners. By consuming them, your
    body will begin to crave more refined carbohydrates and your 'set
    point' will rise.

    Another interesting point from their research. Any diet that causes you
    to be hungry will work against long term weight control. Your body
    responds to hunger the same way it responds to starvation, since it
    cannot tell the difference. It fights to conserve energy by slowing
    your metabolism down, and you become a better fat storer and a worse
    fat burner. It also puts into play very powerful urges to eat, which
    will almost always cause you to eventually go on a binge, not to
    mention the irritability and weakness you feel.
