333.0. "I didn't look - yet..." by PMRV70::SWEENEY () Tue Jul 26 1988 17:05

Well, I'm trying something different for a few weeks to
see if I can get off this roller coaster. I went to WW
Saturday after having a lousy week and I didn't look
at the scale - I got on backwards. Then I had the lady
at the scale keep my card so I couldn't see THE NUMBER.
I will continue doing this for the next 4 weeks and then
I'll look and see how well I've done. When the scale is
down one week, I usually don't do so well the next week.
But when the scale goes up one week, I still don't do so
		well the next week.

So what I hope will happen by not seeing THE NUMBER is that I
will concentrate on just following the program and feeling
good about myself, instead of letting THE NUMBER influence
		my attitude.

So far this week (Saturday thru Tuesday) I have been right
on track. And I have planned ahead for my meals today
so I know I can keep it up for today. Already I feel so
much better after just four days of good eating. If anyone
else has tried this approach, please let me know how it
		worked for you.

Wish me luck......Susan (with 50 pounds left to lose)

	Positive imaging may help you.

Close your eyes, picture yourself at goal. Picture stepping
on the scale and watching it read your goal weight. The image should
be as detailed as you can possible make it, everything from watching
each foot step up, to taking a deep breath, to seeing the reading.

Live the experience in your mind, and you will feel the joy just
as if you had done it. You will know what it will feel like when it
finally happens and that should help you attain it.

Do this when you feel unmotivated, Let me know if it helps
    at all.

333.2Still not looking...PMROAD::SWEENEYWed Aug 03 1988 18:2617
I posted my progress in PROGRESS but I thought I would let everyone
in WEIGHTLOSS know how things went last week and so far this week. Well
I wanted so bad to look at the scale bacause I knew I had a perfect
week. But I didn't look. I know what seeing THE NUMBER does to my
attitude. So I am still doing well and will keep it up (not looking
at the scale) for a few more weeks. By then the progress should
be great.

Thanks Mike for your advice about positive imaging. I have been
doing that when I feel like eating something I shouldn't and it has
helped me stay on track. In my mind, it feels great to see the scale
say 120. I haven't seen that since my wedding day almost 6 years ago!
But I'll see it again for real in the next year or so, thanks to the
motivation I get from WW, PROGRESS and WEIGHTLOSS.
