330.0. "Answers Needed on Weightloss Clinic" by MPGS::KELLEYP () Wed Jul 20 1988 21:33

      Hi,

         I am fairly new to this notes file and wanted to know if anyone
      out there has tried or has known anyone who has tried the Weight
      loss Clinic? I am considering joining and didn't want to be taken
      by alot of high pressure sales pitch. The advertised cost of this
      is $59. I asked if this was everthing and the lady said it was,
      providing this was my first time coming to them. I truly want to
      loose weight and need to badly, but unfortunitaly I can't do it
      on my own, I need support and supervision.

        I would appreciate any answers or comments anyone has regarding
      WLC the sooner the better.

    	Have you considered Weight Watchers?

330.2Yes I have condidered WWMPGS::KELLEYPWed Jul 20 1988 23:4815
    Mike,

       I have considered Weight Watchers. But the con's out weigh the
    pro's. First on the list is child care. My son is two, I can not
    bring him to Weight Watcher's with me, I have already asked the answer
    is no. Second is price. Weight Watcher's would vertually bleed me
    to death price-wise, the least amount I have found is $7 per session
    per week. Supervision is just once a week, at the weigh in, right?
    Even with the weight watcher's at work it is simply at the wrong time
    for me, I work second shift.

    Thanks anyway

    Patti

	Just checking.

    	Someone else will have to answer the questions on cost and
    supervision with Weight Watchers.

330.4$1.00 a dayMSDOA1::MCMULLINThu Jul 21 1988 13:2714
    Patti,

    I paid $10.00 to join Weight Watchers. This was a special fee they
    were running at the time I joined. I think it is normally $20.00
    to join. Then, it is $7.00 a week and you only go once a week.
    I try to look at this like $1.00 a day, and it doesn't seem like
    that much. I don't know if Weight Loss Clinic has a large variety
    of foods to chose from or not, but that is what I like about Weight
    Watchers.

    Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

330.5A less expensive alternative for WWATSE::KASPERKilroy occupied these coordinatesThu Jul 21 1988 14:4911
    I don't know if this is true elsewhere, but in NH you can buy a
    book of 10 coupons for $60, so it's $6/week if you pay up front.

    I was under the impression that you could go every day if you wanted,
    but your weight would only be recorded once a week. I could easily be
    wrong on that.

    I think you are right, Beverly. They offer support as often as you
    want/need but they believe that good weight control habits include
    being weighed only once a week.

    I think one of the best things about WW which is not true of many
    other programs is that WW teaches you how to eat for the rest of
    your life. Some others, Diet Center, for example, have such restrictive
    reducing programs that you could never follow it "for life". In
    other words, I think WW is teaching you new eating habits while
    the others are just helping you to lose weight. Treating the symptoms
    as opposed to the cause of the problem, so to speak.

    Good luck, whatever you decide.

     -Amy.

    One more thought regarding the money - I think I save at least the
    WW fee from my grocery bills now as opposed to before...

330.7The scoop on Weight Loss ClininMPGS::KELLEYPThu Jul 21 1988 19:1613
    Hello again,

       Went to Weight Loss Clinic today, and it's definitly not for me.
    The $59 is only for one week. This turned out to be far more expensive
    than I could possibly imagine. I quickly desided that this is not for
    me. I think I am going to look into WW and see if I can bring my son
    along for the meeting, since I work in the afternoon maybe this won't
    be too much of a problem.

    Thank you all for all of your help,

    Patti

330.8Some WW Meetings Provide Child CareSRFSUP::TERASHITACalifornia NativeMon Jul 25 1988 20:3312
    Patti,

    You might look a little farther afield...the WW center in my area
    (Torrance, California - you don't have to look *that* far!) has
    morning meetings at which child care is provided. I think the weekday
    mornings are Tuesady and Tursday, and I know that the Saturday morning
    meeting (mine) has child care.

    Good luck, and let us know your progress.

330.9IF NO ONE MINDS, BRING YOUR CHILD.SKIVT::L_BURKETue Jul 26 1988 16:5311
    Patti,

    When I used to go people would bring their children, especially
    if they had problems like yours. The main thing is how the other
    people in the meeting react. The meetings are for the people so
    if all were in agreement then it was OK.

    I think WW is great and will be returning in August!

330.10Hello again!MPGS::KELLEYPFri Jul 29 1988 01:1912
    Hi Everyone!!

      Thank you for all your kind responces. I am trying to loose it on my
    own for now until I can get into a WW program. Currently I am using
    the Slim-Fast system. Seems to be working, 4lbs and it's been 4 days.
    Not bad a pound a day. I realize that alot of the chub I loose the
    first few days is water, but it still feels good. I can honestly say
    I am not hungry only eating one meal a day, the shakes really fill me
    up.  Well, more later!!!  Fur-sur!!!
