321.0. "I've decided to do it!!!" by MSDOA1::MCMULLIN () Tue Jul 12 1988 17:19

Well, I've finally decided to do it.......I'm going to join Weight
Watchers. I'm tired of being overweight and not being able to get
motivated enough to do it on my own. My first meeting is tonight.
I guess I've just been building up to finally do something. I had
to reach a point to where I couldn't stand myself any longer before
I did anything about it. I'm at that point now; it's either make
it or break it. I HATE being as big as I am. I kept thinking that
I could do it, I could lose the weight, I was going to; but, I never
did. I hope this gives me the incentive and the motivation to keep
going. I need the extra little push I think WW will give me!!!
I'll keep everyone informed and I really appreciate all the support
    I've received from fellow NOTERS!!!!

Congratulations, Virginia! WW really works - you just have to do
    it *their* way.

Good luck, and keep us posted. (I get a lot of motivation from hearing
how well everyone else is doing!)

Well, I went to my first WW meeting last night. I really ENJOYED
it. I had no idea it would be so interesting. I figured we would
listen to someone talk for an hour and be bored and sleepy and ready
to go home. EVERYONE was participating. My goal is to lose 35
lbs. It seems like you get plenty to eat, but at this very moment
I am hungry and I've still got an hour until lunch and I just ate
an apple about an hour ago and I'm sipping on my water. I keep
telling myself only an hour to go until lunch, you can wait and
I think I can (either that or go to lunch early (-: ) I hope in
a couple of days my body will adjust. My breakfast was considerably
smaller than usually. If I continue to get hungry like this, I
guess I'll have to eat a bigger breakfast and a smaller lunch or
    dinner.

re -.1 The reason I titled my last note with my first name is because
I meant to sign out, but I hit CTRL Z and then signed out instead
of vice versa. Just didn't want every one to think I was vain or
    anything..

321.4Just hang in thereNCVAX1::GETSCHDave GetschWed Jul 13 1988 17:149
I know what you feel like, having been on WW for 8 weeks now. the
first couple of days are tough from the hunger stand point, but
your body does adjust to reasonable amounts of food instead of all
the excess calories you used to consome.

Its not easy, but it gets better.

It might be as long as 2 weeks until you adjust, depending on
how much fat you were eating.

But, remember, your body _will_ adjust. Hang in there.

Virginia, I just want to give you a little bit of encouragement.
First of all, congrats on joining WW. I swear by it. The first
week is the toughest, but it gets better each week. You start getting
more variety, until on the fifth week, you have practically everything
on program that you were eating before, just in healthy amounts.
And you WILL lose weight, it you follow the program. It does work.
There are some days when I can't seem to all my allowances in.

    Good luck, Susan

321.7Vegetables...Eat More Vegetables!SRFSUP::TERASHITACalifornia NativeWed Jul 13 1988 19:1512
One thing that helped me get through the first week...I ate lots of
servings of vegetables. At least two servings with lunch and two
more (sometimes three) with dinner. And snacks were all vegetables.
They filled me up then (and they fill me up now) without using up
exchanges quickly. I really miss my giant-sized salad if I don't
    get it with my lunch.

Glad to hear you enjoyed WW. My Saturday morning meetings are the
    best part of my week!

    Dave,

Congratulations on your 8 weeks with Weight Watchers!! Thanks for
the words of encouragment. I hope my stomach will shrink in a few
days and I won't be as hungry.

    re .5

    Mike,

I hope it doesn't take 2 weeks for the hunger pangs to go away but
if it does, at least I'll know I'll survive. I would have probably
thought in about a week's time that I was starving to death if you
hadn't given me this advice :-) Thanks!!

    Susan,

Thanks for the words of encouragement and the tips on getting to
add more food. It will be nice when I start having trouble getting
    all my allowances in!!

    re .7

    Lynn,

I'm afraid you've hit upon my weak spot. There's not too many veggies
I do like or can eat. I'm allergic to tomatoes, I can't eat onions,
peppers, or cucumbers without acute cases of indigestion and/or
an upset stomach. Most other's I don't really care for. Green
beans, green peas, all starchy veggies (corn, potatoes, beans, etc.)
lettuce, and mushrooms are about the extent of my vegetables. I
love olives and pickles, but they've got so much salt, I try not
to eat them (I consider these pseudo vegetables as I'm not sure
    what category they belong in.)

Thanks to everyone for the support I keep receiving!!!

321.9It *does* get easier (and it works!)!!ATSE::KASPERKilroy occupied these coordinatesThu Jul 14 1988 15:0311
Green beans, lettuce, and mushrooms are okay, of course, as are pickles
(they're just cucumbers, after all!), though you're right about the
salt. Starchy vegetables, including peas, are counted as breads.
You'll see them added as the 5 weeks go by.

    Hang in there!

An aside, Weight Watcher's is one of the safest, surest, and
    most nutritionally sound diets.

Before anyone goes off on a radical weight reduction diet, try
Weight Watcher's. It won't kill you. I can't say the same for
    all the other diets available.
