| Hi Lynn,
I've tried a couple of exercise videos myself, so I have a few things to
suggest on the subject:
Rent or borrow a video before you buy it. If you don't enjoy it once, you
won't want to do it again. Test-driving the music is also important.
I "permanently borrowed" Jane Fonda's workout. I got pretty tired of the
background music and Jane's commentary, etc, after the first couple of
times, but I got a good workout from it (though not very aerobic, and I've
heard rumors as to the number of situps they did :-)). Jane also has
low-impact (and I think maternity) videos available.
A lot of high-impact, or high joint-stress exercises can be modified. Don't
limit yourself too much if you hear great things about a video that you
think might be too hard on your body.

This is partially reprinted (retyped?) from Women's Sports and Fitness,
December 1987.
This is their pick for the top 30 aerobics videos. They are scored on 5
different categorizes: Safety, Quality of Instruction (how well you can
hear) Completeness, Motivational Value, and Quality of Production. There
is also a little write-up about each video - not reproduced here. If you
really want a copy, send me EMAIL, and I'll xerox you a copy from the
magazine (it may take a couple of days/weeks though, because we're moving
and I can't find anything!)

| I use Richard Simmons "Sweatin' To The Oldies". The music is enjoyable,
not alot of talking, your heart rate is checked twice...good warm
up and cool down excersises.

| Specialized tapes. I like Denise Austin's tape. I have the "Super
Stomachs tape, and also the "Hips, Thighs, and Buttocks". The stomache
tape is a vigorous 15 minutes and the hips one runs for 30 minutes.
They are both fun!!!! (I gave away my Jane Fonda tape, I did not
like her at all)

I don't know where you are located, but the new video store
at the Greendale Mall in Worcester has all of the Sweatin'
to the Oldies tapes... plus loads of other great fitness
videos.

I live in Haverhill, Ma, work in Salem NH. A friend knows someone who
runs a video store, and he called to see if I could get it there.
According to this person, they can only be bought by mail. They can be
rented, but I prefer to buy it for her.
