204.1As I recall . . .ABEL::KASPERThis note contains exactly ---> Tue Jan 26 1988 16:517

    I believe that Sorbitol is a carbohydrate, essentially equivalent to
    sugar, but metabolized more slowly.

204.2What about caloriesSCRUZ::NOWICKI_KATue Jan 26 1988 16:524

    Does it have the same calorie content as sugar?

204.3side effectGENRAL::KILGOREA + Thinking AreaTue Jan 26 1988 18:235
    Being frank here...it gives me gas, stomach pains, and a bloated
    feeling if I have any. That includes gum, cough drops, or any food
    made with Sorbitol. My doctor says that is one side effect. He
    failed to mention what the others were. :-(

204.4USED IN BABY LAXITIVESBUSY::BSANSEVEROWed Jan 27 1988 08:115
    MY HUSBAND HAS ALWAYS TOLD ME THAT SORBITOL IS USED AS AN INFANT
    LAXITIVE WHICH EXPLAINS SOME OF THE GI SYMPTOMS EXPERIENCED WHEN
    USED IN LOW CALORIE FOODS, ESPECIALLY CANDY. I WOULD STEER CLEAR
    OF IT.
