171.0. "swimming and lose weight" by VLNVAX::CHEN () Tue Dec 15 1987 00:01

Does anybody work around Marlboro and know some good place to go
swimming? Last summer I went swimming every day during lunch hour
and lost 20lbs in three months.(I am in OK shape and losing weight
is very very hard for me. So 20lbs was a lot for me.) I've gained
the weight back and now I want to start swimming again. Does anyone
would like to go after work?
    /Charlotte

171.1bad news from Marlboro...ARGUS::CORWINI don't care if I AM a lemmingTue Dec 15 1987 08:5113
Hi Charlotte,

(Now I have your first name :-))

A friend and I were talking with someone in Marlboro (we both work here,
too) who said there weren't any indoor pools in the area. Where did you
go over the summer? Were you working somewhere else at the time?

Where do you live? There might be a pool near home for you, and maybe some
of us live in your neighborhood and can arrange something like that...

Jill, who would love to go swimming with you :-)

    Jill,
I was in college the past summer in Worcester. (WPI) So I was
allowed to go there. I still live in Worcester, but I am moving
to Brighton in Jan. I want to start swimming now so I thought
join a healthclub somewhere in Marlboro might be better. I will
let you know if I find somewhere has a clean pool and not too
    expansive.

There is a Tennis and Swim club in Marlboro (Wayside?) -
    	Alas, it is *very* expensive!

I'm not sure of the name, (might be Wayside something or other)
It's down near the Marlboro Airport.

re .-1

Yes, it's Wayside Racquet & Swim Club. A friend told me about it, and I
called for price info. They said a swim membership is $35/month, and there's
an initial fee that they'd explain when you came down to see them (and we all
know how bad that sounds!!)

Remember to ask them if there's a discount for Dec employees -
many times there is at least a small discount on the initial fee.
    No harm in asking!

I recently moved from Marlboro (to a house on a lake so I can swim
all the time!), but just before I moved I was about to join the
health club at the Park West Hotel at the intersection of route
20 and 495 (across from the Mount Royal facility). At that time,
the pool was about to open, and a year's membership with DEC discount
was about $200 per year. I have no idea if it's open or what kind
of pool it is, but it's worth checking out. The swim spa (not a
real pool) in the health club down the street (The Club) was a lot
more expensive (membership plus monthly fees) and not what I wanted
to swim in. The Wayside Racquet Club was too far away (it's near
Sudbury) and very expensive. You might also try the Marriott Hotel
in Westboro, it might have a pool.

This is a little on the late side, but there is always
the good ol' YMCA. I joined the Y in Nashua last
October and swim 3 to 4 times a week. I don't know how
    much weight I lost (I don't weigh myself - too depressing :^>)
    but I feel great!
