166.0. "Colds and Flus" by NHL::ARNO () Mon Dec 07 1987 13:05

It's that time of the year when people seem so get alot
    of Colds AND FLU'S.

How do you handle it when you are sick? Do you over
eat? Do you feel sometimes because you are sick
you need to build your self up so you eat more?

How about it if someone in your house is sick you
you take care of them how do you handle that?

I know I even get carried away with the cough drops..
I know there are times when I don't need them I eat
    them..

It's not fun to be sick and I hope you all stay
    well..

I have been lucky so far..

Cough drops aside, when I'm sick my mouth tastes so disgusting that
my main food ends up being tea and hot chocolate (nutrasweet), and
I LOSE weight. Now that I've lost weight, changed my diet, made
exercise a part of my life, and added vitamin C tablets (5 100's
per day, taken throughout the day) to my diet, I have not gotten
a severe cold since September (that's when I added the C). Used
to be I had them almost all winter. I know I had one last week,
back in my throat, but it didn't get bad - I coughed a little for
two mornings and could *tell* I had a small cold, but I didn't
use up my usual 2 boxes of kleenex. See what you've got to
    look forward to?

Funny that I should come back after being out sick for a day and find
this note in this conference! I'm usually good for a cold or two
during the winter -- my wife teaches elementary school music, picks up
all kinds of nasty stuff from her kiddos, and brings it home to me!
    YEECH!

I would have to say, however, that I have the same reaction to a cold
as Louise -- when I have one, especially if I've taken any medication,
I don't feel like eating much of anything. However, if I were home
sick due to some other kind of illness, I might be more inclined to
nibble on whatever happens to be around the house...

Hi, all. I'm back from a week in sunny Los Angeles (for DECUS), but
I brought something back with me -- a cold! It started with a sore
throat Sunday night (a week ago), and is mostly gone.

Being particularly aware of the diet issue last week, I noticed a
definite tendancy to use the fact that I felt miserable as an excuse
    to console myself with food.

When I have a fever, though, I lose interest in food, and live on
    juice and soda.
