    A co-worker has just lost about 40 pounds in a short time with this
    plan. However, members of this conference know that the real test
    will be his maintenance of the new level.

    What is the program at these centers?

    Thanks,
    		Debra
    (just curious as I've never heard of these in Canada anyway.)

    I went to WPLC on an 8 week program. Lost a total of 37 pounds in
    that time.

    While I did lose the weight, I haven't written about the program,
    because I have some concerns about it.
    I'll respond to send/author until I can get all the "right" words
    for a reply.

    I was and am a participant in the program at PWLC.
    I have been in Arlington and N. Andover, my job
    changed so I transfered for convenience. I'll answer
    any questions I can off line or over the phone. The
    owners of the two facilities are personal friends and I
    don't find it ethical to publically advertise for them
    over this conference.

    BTW - I met them while a member at their center, the personel
    staff at these centers have a lot to do with your sucess
    on the program. Besides that they are each indivdually owned.

126.5It's DANGEROUS!RAVEN1::D_PAINETue Jun 28 1988 13:0822
    I ran into a friend that I hadn't seen in a while. She told me
    that she has been working at Physicians Weightloss Center. She
    also told me that their "guarantee" was based on the fact that your
    body must be in a state of ketosis!!

    Now, I remember reading in here somewhere that they used to do that,
    and someone else replied, saying that they didn't do that any more.(I
    can't find those notes! :-()

    Well, this center is in South Carolina, and they DO insist that
    your body stay in a state of ketosis...you must bring in a urine
    sample every week, and if your body is not in this state three weeks
    in a row, YOU GET KICKED OUT! Their "motto" is , "If you cheat,
    it'll show in your urinalysis, so you can't blame us if you don't
    lose weight."

    I know that they may be independantly owned, but I thought I'd put
    out a warning....

126.6Every Diet is DANGEROUS!!WAGON::SWINIARSKINANcy--*NANSKI*--SwiniarSKITue Aug 09 1988 15:3518
    re .5

    Any diet is DANGEROUS unless supervised by a "physician."

    "PHYSICIANS" Weightloss Center says it right in their name.
    The diet requires that the patient remain in ketosis. Drinking
    8 glasses of water a day will wash the keytones from your kidneys.

    When I was a patient we were required to go for a weigh-in everyday
    for the first two weeks and three times a week there after. I went
    every day through out the duration of my program.

    Blood-pressure is checked weekly and even more often if you asked Blood
    tests were also required every six weeks. It was a well supervised and
    controlled diet.

    Each center is privately owned. I went to a good one - (-:

126.7does PWLC = Atkins?STEREO::BROWNthat's the way the Wookie grumblesThu Oct 05 1989 15:575
    Is this anything like the Atkins Diet? All meat & protein, no/low
    carbohydrates?
    I had PWLC recommended to me, but I will look for other opinions
    before I commit to a plan.
