    someone mentioned losing inches at a Slender Body Salon.
    
    What is it?

    There are Slender Body, Slender You salons popping up all over.
    There is one in Westford, Nashua, N.H., Framingham, Milford, Fitchburg/
    Leominster.  The concept is to tone muscles whereas aerobics builds
    body muscle.  This type of exercise does nothing for your heart
    and lungs.  I have been attending the one in Framingham for about
    3-4 months and have lost 13 inches overall.  However, I have not
    lost any weight.  You get measured every 6th visit.  I do need to
    loose 5 lbs. but am having a difficult time.  The RN who runs the
    salon I go to can't believe I have lost this many inches and not
    any weight.

    A better definition of inch loss....13 inches based on measurements
    taken in 10 different areas of the body.  I am still a little over
    5' tall.  The concept is good.  The salon I attend has 6 machines.
    One machine does 900 (yes 900) hiprolls, another us equivalent to
    2 miles of walking, another is overall stretch plus a few more.
    With all these machines, isometrics is the key.  Tighting and relaxing
    parts of the body while the machine does most of the work.  Where
    I go it is $60 for 10 visits, plus a free visit for each person
    you bring in.  You spend 10 minutes per machine.  It is really quite
    interesting.  I have a real bad case of shine splints which I developed
    from aerobics twice per day, three times a week.  This is a sweatless
    way of exercising.

    I  signed up to start at Slender Body in Leominster.  I have already
    lost 56lbs on ww with another 70 to go.  I feel it is about time
    to incorporate some exercise with my diet.  This no work type thing
    interest me (I hate exercise) Tonight will be my first appointment.
    Looking forward to it.

    I was measured last night after six appointments, I lost a total
    of 5 1/5 inches.  I did not have them weight me as I get weighed
    at w.w. and do not want a conflict on the scales.  I can see
    improvement in my legs (more firm), and bust.  It has motivated
    me to start some walking now.  I would recommend it to anyone who
    hates exercise.

    Is the procedure at the Slender Body salons EMS - that is,
    electro-muscle stimulation? Someone mentioned one in Westford -
    can you tell me where it is? Has anyone else had any experience
    with this sort of thing? To me it sounds almost too good to be true,
    but, as one who *hates* aerobics, I am intrigued.

    I found out the answers to my questions- No, it is not EMS.
    But- I have started going (to the Slender You salon in Westford)
    and I love it! I leave there SO relaxed! We'll see how the inch

    Check out note 66. I went to a place called Slender You. I loved
    it. It was very relaxing. And it does work - up to a point. The
    tables tone your muscles and they do it faster than you probably
    would be able to on your own. So you see results faster, which is
    very rewarding. But they don't help you lose weight. I am told,
    however, that if you are losing weight while spending time ont he
    tables, you will see the toning results even faster.

    	Liz,  I also live in Leominster and I just joined Heavenly Bodies,
    it's on Rt. 12 also only a little closer to town.  So far I have
    gone for four visits, my fifth being on Friday.  They have seven
    different tables that do the excersises for you (similar to Slender
    Bodies).  As far as results, I don't know what they are yet but
    I do know that it really feels great.  I know when I leave there
    I really feel reved up and ready to go.  Right now they have a special
    going which is 20 visits for $85.00, and this is only good til October
    15, ( there regular price is 20 for $100.00, which is only $5.00
    a visit).  I'm not sure of the prices at Slender Bodies.  They will
    give you your first visit free, I had always wanted to try it so
    it gives you the chance to see if you like it or not.  All you have
    to do is call them and make an appointment.  I'm not sure how crowded
    it is in the evenings because I go in the morning ( I work third
    shift) so that may be something you would want to check into.  After
    all I got my grandmother ( she's 68 ) to join with me and she loves
    it to.

     I think thats another one of my problems is that I need to tone
    up my muscels(sp).  I used to be an avid runner about 8 years ago

    No one has replied to this note since October, so I'll put my 2
    cents worth.  I have been on a diet since January 1st and lost 23-1/2
    pounds, so I decided to start an exercise program and found a place
    in Pepperell called Slenderizers, which is also the machines.  I
    have visited 8 times and lost 8-1/2 inches all over and feel great.
    I, too, don't like to exercise and sweat for an hour, so
    this is perfect and it does the job.  If you don't diet the inches
    come off very slowly, but with dieting you do see results fast.

Well, after reading this topic (thanks for the pointer!) I decided to start with
the program next Thuesday. I had my first lesson (free) last Friday, but was so 
relaxed afterwards that I doubted this could really help anything. And the cost
are very high here in Austria: $ 140 for ten lessons plus one lesson free!

But as anybody stated that they've lost some inches I think I'll give it a
try. Sure, I have to stay on a diet, too. And that's the next big problem .....
After all those different kind of diets during the last years I decided just
to watch what I eat and write down every bit of it. It worked the last days
but this morning they had such a wonderful cake at the grocer's next door,
I just couldn't resist .... Well, let's hope I'll end the day better then
I started it!

BTW: Does any of you know a trick to improve the quantities of liquid
you get a day? I usually drink only a cup of tea in the morning and eventually
a glass of wine in the evening. So it's hard for me to come to 2l a day!!!
Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot, and if you are interested I'll tell you how "Slender-You" worked!

    	Well, this isn't really a trick, but it's what got me drinking
    plenty of water.  I have a large (32 oz) cup at work, that I
    constantly keep filled with water.  If it's sitting there in front
    of me, I'll drink it.  After a while it became totally instinctual.
    In fact, now if I'm in the middle of something and I've run out of
    water, I still automatically reach for the glass - that's when I
    know it's time for a break! :^)

    	Drinking enough at home and on weekends was tougher...but I
    just tried the same principle - keep a filled glass by you when
    you're at home reading, watching tv, whatever.

    The problem is that we can't drink water directly from the ......
    (is "pin" the right word? Hope you know what I mean!) because it
    contains too much calcium. And if you buy a box of mineral water 
    and then leave it at the office you'll always have warm mineral
    water to drink - yuk!
    
    At home it is much more easier, and I'm able to drink more on weekends
    (especially as my fiance always keeps telling me: Don't you want
    something to drink? He knows that I should drink a lot more because
    I have also problems with my kidneys...)
    
    So, I dried it with tea at the office -------
    I can't see any tea anymore ##@@@#!
    
    Well, I know I have to, so I will go now and get myself anoher cup
    of tea (#@!), again, anymore tricks are very welcome!

    If you're drinking regular tea (as opposed to herbal tea), you're getting
    quite a bit of caffeine with it.  Caffeine is a diuretic (which means
    it causes your body to dehydrate), so drinking a lot of caffeinated
    beverages is *not* what you want to do for either weight loss or your
    kidneys!

    I like water, so I don't have this problem, but I do find it difficult to
    drink water from the tap, even if it's filtered.  I bring spring water in
    with me, and I find that it's quite drinkable at room temperature.  If
    you really don't like that though, see if you can find a source of ice --
    my building (MKO) has one kitchen area with a full-sized fridge, complete 
    with ice maker, hidden away on the second floor.  Or try bringing ice in
    a Thermos.

    In Oz we have (at the moment) chilled spring water.  Its great, I just
    fill up a 1.5lt jug and a tiny bit of local cordial and I drink 3
    litres before lunch!!!!!  Apart from knowing how good water is for me,
    I remember reading that Elle McPherson (the body) also drinks 3 litres
    before lunch every day.  In total each day I drink 3.5 to 4 litres a
    day of just water.  I have never been a tea/coffee person anyway so I
    don't know what I'm missing.
    
    I know where every toilet is between our office and the shops up the
    road (^'  At least if you drink it before lunch you don't end up
    spending the whole night in the loo!
    
    If by chance I'm in meetings or caught up, my mouth goes dry from lack
    of water would you believe!  It only took me two days to get used to
    this amount of water, and believe me I get rid of every bit!

1) I only drink herbal or fruit teas, so I guess this won't do any harm?
2) We have a fridge here, too, but it's very small and though used by
a lot of people, therefore you can only store tiny things like a yoghurt
or something like this in there. 

I maybe could do with ice in thermos, but you know, the main problem is
to drink that much .....

    Herbal and fruit teas are fine -- if you like them better than water,
    they're a great way to get your water in (I loathe teas of all sorts,
    but then, I like plain water...).
    
    As for how to acclimate to drinking large amounts of water, I don't
    really know what to recommend.  I can drink a gallon in a day with no
    problem; like Dale, my mouth gets dry if I don't drink enough.  Anybody
    have any idea why that difference might exist?

    Now you've got me, I've forgotten how much a gallon is, somewhere near
    4lt??
    
    I thought I was drinking huge amounts, I guess like everybody else. 
    But when I counted it it only amounted to 2 litres on a good day.  A
    friend in Irvine office sent me an article and after cursing him loudly
    and over quite a long time, I tried it on the Friday morning.  It *was*
    hard, I won't lie, but by Saturday night I had learnt to drink most of
    it in the morning (^' (^'  Then I remembered reading about Elle and her
    secret was all before lunch.  Made sense to me, my nights were becoming
    too broken and my bathroom was more familiar than my bed! 
    
    By Monday I had managed to drink 2.5 litres before lunch, the rest
    early afternoon.  By Wednesday I was drinking 3.5litres before lunch
    with a 300 ml glass with dinner.  Now, I panic if I can't get it all
    in.  At the gym on Sat/Sun I drink 600ml before leaving, and carry a
    750ml bottle for the treadmill.  The remainder I drink early afternoon
    and still manage to have a pretty good nights sleep. (^'
    
    I couldn't manage it with unflavoured water, but the small amount of
    lo-cal cordial does make it easy.  I just make myself, and don't sip! 
    I drink a 300ml coffee mug almost in one gulp.  It ain't ladylike, but
    with meetings, phone calls, and running around, its the only way to
    cope.  (^'
    
    When we move to our new headquarters in July, they will only be
    supplying unfiltered Sydney water (YUCK!)  So, I and my petition are
    having an easy time gaining support for filters.  
    
    I can't give you any more advise/support with the content you drink. 
    Just DO IT is the easiest way of putting it.  But, without measuring
    now I know how much I've had.  Not only does it make you feel better,
    but it aids your whole body in working better, from your kidneys,
    liver, bowel, skin and overall.  I must admit to nightmares when we fly
    to the States and in cattleclass!

	Dale, I can certainly sympathize with your concern about flying to
	the states!  Planes are very dehydrating, and the water they provide 
	is generally not the greatest.  I'd suggest that you try to manage
	bringing along a gallon bottle (or the metric equivalent :-) of 
	your preferred water.  You'll drink all of it on the plane, so you 
	won't have to deal with the extra bulk on the far end, and you'll 
	arrive in much better shape.

    Well if they let me through customs with two 1.5lt Evian bottles I'll
    be fine.  I'm not worried about my skin coz I use some great stuff that
    keeps me *normal* even flying internally and staying in hotels for
    weeks at a time.  What I may end up doing is putting my cubicle id on

Yesterday was my first lesson at the "Slender You"-Salon. It was of course
a lot easier than all that body-buidling, aerobic or whatever, and maybe
that's why I am not so convinced that it will *really* help. Well, let's see....

I still have a problem with drinking water (or tea or so). Thanks a lot for
your inputs. I think I'll buy myself a big pot of at least 1 or 2ltr which
will be always standing on my table. Maybe I'll drink more if I can see
it *waiting* for me!

Anyway, my big problem is dieting itself. It started so well two weeks ago,
but now I am again at the old thinking-level. Meaning, I go to a shop to 
buy, let's say some bread and tell the shop keeper to give me also one
of these cookies and two of those and so on while my brain is rotating: You 
must not buy and eat that, you have to loose weight, this is not good for your
health and so on. And then I go home and eat all the cookies (or chocolate bars
or whatever good things you can think about) immediately! 

Seems like in reality I don't want to loose weight, doesn't it? But it want to,
I *have* to (it just needs a look into the mirror or at my skirts which still
fit me (only two with rubber-bands.....).

Today for breakfast I had again two cookies, right after I'd seen myself in my
big bathroom-mirror ..... Does any of you understand this "schizophreny" (sp.?)

There must be something wrong with my mind!
