50.0. "McDonald's Salads" by FXADM::COOPER () Wed Jun 03 1987 11:35

    Has anyone tried the new salads Mc Donald's has out. I tried
    the Chicken Oriental and Oriental dressing. I loved it. I'm
    glad they finally have something different and something we can
    eat on our diet.

    The only thing is the dressings, they give you a 2oz packet which
    I know that is too much dressing that is allowed for my diet.
    Tonite I will ask the dietian at our Nutrition Class if we can
    have the McDonald Salad and a small portion of the dressing.

    Yes, the salads are excellent! I go thru the drive-thru in the
    morning before work and leave one in the fridge for lunch.

    (I use only a smidgen of the salad dressing, though)

    The Light Vinegrette dressing isn't too fattening (quite the opposite
    as a matter of fact) and you can use the whole packet if you want!

    Good old McD's is required by California law to provide nutritional
    information books free of charge. If I can get in and out of one
    without buying anything :-), I'll pick one up and give everyone
    the straight poop.

    Anyone out there know how these salads break down in terms of Weight
    Watchers exchanges?

50.5FYI - McDonald's salad info in today's GlobeSTAR::YANKOWSKASWed Jun 24 1987 09:514
    THere's a good article in this morning's Boston Globe Food section
    about the McDonald's salads.

    For those of us who live too far away to get the Boston
    Globe, would you please summarize? I'm especially interested in
    nutritional information/calorie counts.

    Left the paper at home, so I can't respond to your question right
    now. I'll try to provide the info either tonight or tomorrow.

50.8McDonalds salad article highlights.STAR::YANKOWSKASThu Jun 25 1987 09:4231
    As promised in .7, here's a summary of the info in yesterday's Boston
    Globe article on the McDonalds salads.

    Chef Salad -- contains iceberg lettuce, celery, carrots, tomato
    wedges, radish pieces, cucumber, hard boiled egg, shredded Cheddar
    cheese, and julienned ham and turkey. Has 226 calories, 13 grams
    of fat (fat accounts for 52% of the calories in this salad), 125
    milligrams of cholesterol and 850 milligrams of sodium.

    Chicken Salad Oriental -- primarily iceberg lettuce, with some celery,
    carrots, green pepper, tomato, and cubes of chicken. 146 calories,
    4 grams fat, 100 mg cholesterol, 270 mg sodium. A package of chow
    mein noddles is also provided on the side.

    Garden salad -- mostly lettuce and veggies, with some Cheddar cheese
    and egg wedges. 91 calories, 5.5 grams fat, 110 mg cholesterol,
    100 mg sodium.

    As a couple of replies to this note have already pointed out, the big
    thing to watch out for with these salads is the dressing. A 2-2.5
    ounce packet containing 4 tablespoons of dressing is provided. Use all
    of this on your salad, and you'll take in more fat than if you got a
    Big Mac and Fries. For weight-conscious people, the article
    recommended using only a small amount of either the lite vinaigrette or
    Oriental dressings.

    Hope this reply has been helpful.

50.9Don't get the blue cheeseCADSE::SPRIGGSDarlene..Making Music ALL THE TIME!Wed Aug 31 1988 14:207
    Was dining at the Golden Arches and noticed that the piece of paper
    on the tray had nutritional information for the salads. All was
    about the same as .8 except the Garden Salad was listed as 112 cal.
    As already stated, watch out for the dressings. The lite vinegrette
    (sp) was only 60 cal/package where as the blue cheese was 354/package.
