1437.0. "Year2000 consultancy?" by CHEFS::CHOIC (Shaking and Moving) Wed May 21 1997 19:23

There are a few notes in here about Year2000 and our products like VMS,
but does DIGITAL (in the UK) do any Year2000 consultancy?

I may have a corporate who'd like people with a bit of know-how to give
them an idea of what issues they'll need to address.

Isn't it simply a case of whether or not the software calculates a two
or a four digit year field. The problem (obviously) is the software
that uses two digit date fields.

If the net wasn't running so slowly I'd try to find you
the internal y2k info too but I've just give up after
1/2 hour... doesn't help that our usual machine for
netscape is being slogged too....

I think you'll find Chris Deal @HHL is the guy to contact - he has NSIS
business responsibility for Year2000 things, I understand.

Technically, yes. But I'm talking about where customers want an
assessment of the potential impact of this "feature" on their business
which means someone to come in and look at their systems, applications
etc, then report on recommended actions..

    Consultancy -> money!

I can tell them what the bug is, but I couldn't tell them what they need
to do to avoid it stopping their business

Subject: UI: Year 2000 Programme Support Office

The Year 2000 issue is of growing concern to all companies, many of
these re DIGITAL customers, to whom we must be giving a consistent,
supportive response. This concerns our products and services as well as
assistance we can provide our customers for their applications.

DIGITAL's UK, Year 2000 team was established last quarter (see
attached), and with a growing number of questions and enquiries we have now
set-up a Programme Support Office, managed by Zoey Heyre, based in Reading,
which will be developing over the coming months.

This office is in place to:

o assist both you and your customers in researching the Year 2000
        issue.

o	compliment the information already published on the external web
        http://www.digital.com/info/year2000.

o	co-ordinate customer responses, with particular reference to the
commercial aspects of the Year 2000.

o	support DIGITAL staff in their understanding and dealings with
        customers.

In summary, the objective of this activity is to work with you to
provide a timely, consistent response to Digitals Customers.

The number to call is 7-830-3456. Please cascade this message through
your organisation.

Best regards
Chris Deal
