267.0. "1997 Schedule...." by PCBUOA::WALLS () Tue Mar 11 1997 12:37

    From the NFL Webpage:

    Packers, Patriots to meet again

    March 10, 1997

A rematch of Super Bowl XXXI will take place this July as the Green Bay
Packers and New England Patriots meet in a pre-season game at Lambeau
    Field.

The game is scheduled for Thursday, July 31 at 8:00 p.m. EST and will
    be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

The Packers defeated the Patriots 35-21 in Super Bowl XXXI at New
Orleans last January. One Packer who will not be around for the rematch
will be Super Bowl MVP Desmond Howard. Howard left Green Bay earlier
this month when he signed a four-year deal with the Oakland Raiders.

The Pats schedule has to be one of the toughest schedules for '97.
They have the Jets twice, Chicago, and Tampa Bay for teams under .500.

I'm not sure when but the Patriots are supposed to play the Dallas
Cowboys at home in pre-season too. It was just announced on the Pats
    Web page.

Some more good practice for the real thing....So far the Pats have
lost to all the teams last year that they're going to play in preseason.

    Wow! What a schedule!

Pats open with the Chargers in Foxboro.

The Pats have a great schedule!!!!!!

Their last three road games of the season are in Jacksonville, Tampa
Bay, and a Monday night game the last game of the year at Miami! They
play one outdoor game on the road in November (in Buffalo 11/9) and
none in December outside of Florida!

267.12Advantage to the opponent who did'nt have to play Moday nightPCBUOA::WALLSThu Mar 27 1997 19:3612

It is a great schedule but will be an exhausting one. Not only will the
Pats have tough opponents but the game the following week after a Monday
night game is always tough, and the Pats have three of them.

But luckily the Pats are a young team.

Can't wait for that home Jets game on Sunday night. Even the NFL itself
    is touting it!

I'm looking forward to the Pats pummeling the Jets into obscurity.

So I guess that would be the game. Whats the matter, a little bit of
    rivalry too much for you.

267.15The Rivalry is There For All AFC East Teams!ABACUS::FORTIN_CWorked the Bars & Sideshows.....Fri Mar 28 1997 11:5718

As far as I'm concerned, the rivalry has always been there. The
Parcells thing is a circus, just like it was before the Super Bowl
and ultimatly, it takes away from the game. All the attention
before this game will be on Parcells this, Parcells that from the
local media when the real focus should be on the PATRIOTS and what they
have to do to beat the Jets.

Face it folks, the Tuna is gone...it's time to move on.

Besides, I hate night games in Foxboro! I might consider selling
my seats for that game except that the TNT crew is going to beat
the Parcells thing to death and then beat it some more and some
    more....

As -1 said. The game is important because we need the WIN, the Parcells
thing should be just forgotten and put to sleep........

I, myself, would probably cheer/thank Parcells when he comes to
Foxboro. He's a great coach, and he did what he promised to all of us
Patriot's Fan, bring the New England Patriots to the SuperBowl. He probably
would have brought us there again this year if Kraft would have done his
owner thing and left Parcells do his coaching thing. But it's done, over,
 and let's move on..........

If we want to repeat last years run to the SB, we will need WINS,
 not side show media circus/propaganda.......

	My .02 worth.......

267.17Can't blame the media for Parcells classless departure..PCBUOA::WALLSFri Mar 28 1997 13:3520

I think Parcells is a great coach too and personally hate the way the
media whoops up stuff but with the media aside, you can't tell me on
any level this is going to be an ordinary game. Even many of the
players are going to have "extra motivation" for this game. Many are
upset with Parcells that he did'nt come back with them or say bye after
the Superbowl, regardless of whether or not he was going to be coaching
next year. Many knew that he was probably going to go, but at least
Parcells could have had a little class, and acknowledged the players.
Now Parcells stated he had some bond with the players but he sure
did'nt show it. Regardless with what was happening between him and
Kraft he should have acknowledged his players.

Unfortunatly the media can be blamed for ruining the Superbowl by
making it the Parcells act but in this case Parcells created some
ill-will with his players on his own account. Not a good thing if your
going to be in the same division.
