| Another 2 newies...Newt and Cucumber, Monksesque with a no smoking
policy before 3:00pm, Edwards, an 'upmarket' loud music bar with a
nightclub feel, too loud but the drinks service is good. And about to
be converted from the old Barclays, Bar Excellence (arf). From the summer
a good pub crawl for the walk-shy of Reading could be: get a cab to the....
Tut and Shive (Weird interior, average boozes, atmos OK) to
Corn Stores (upmarket, nice pint of London Pride, bit slow for a night
out) to
Blagrave (tatty, quiet, beer average, atmosphere lacking) to
3Bs (young crowd, good guest ales, floor a bit wobbly) to
Rat and Parrot (formerly Coopers, nice atmos, nice interior) to
Monks Retreat (Large, can lack atmos, beers good sometimes, food OK) to
Old Society (Dull, bouncers on doors, standard tap-piss beers) to
Yates Wine Lodge (Avoid if possible, bouncers on doors, bouncers
inside, atmos 'edgy') to
Newt and Cucumber (as above) to
Bar Excellence (unknown quantity) to
Edwards (as above) to
Flyer and Firkin (Barn, micro brewery, can be full of onanists at
weekends, live bands and stuff) to
Jolly Porter (for a fight) to
Three Guineas (sit outside if warm, standard tap-piss booze) to
Taxi-Rank. The more adventurous may consider strolling down to
The Malthouse (good solid, no nonsense pup, lots of sport) to
Scruffy Murphys (fair irish style pub (with bicycle) can get 'lively')
to
Tudor Tavern (for a fight) to
Oak Tavern (to continue fight, get ambulance to hospital, get taxi
home.)
dickie.
