Hi, A customer is using Pathworks for OSF v5.0F. Suddenly, they find the following problem: When they try to add a new PW account they receive an error message: "NET2224 The user account already exists" The screen reads the message if they add the accounts from PWADMIN or using NET USER /ADD. Command NET USER displays all accounts and no problem. The new account isn't in the /etc/passwd file. Accounts.lmx file protections is O.K. They cannot add any new account. Any idea, please? Thanks in advance for your prompt replies, Lidia

How many users do they have? What's the size of the accounts.lmx file? Have they done permit trees? They will need to upgrade from 5.0F. Julia

Hi, They are 60 users. The ACCOUNTS.LMX size is 2572000 bytes. Yes, they're using lot of permit trees. I see on this conference many replies talking about this problem, but I see it isn't possible rebuild the ACCOUNT.LMX file. What must they do? Can they revoke all the permissions in the directory tree except root? Not like VMS I understand PW UNIX checks the permissions until the root, then it isn't useful to use any Permit Tree. Why do you say they need to upgrade version? I don't find 5.0G fix the problem. Thanks in advance for your replies, Lidia

Using permit trees usually isn't necessary and it does cause alot of problems. If I remember correctly, I don't think revoking the permissions will help clear the problem. You may have a corrupt account.lmx. 5.0F is no longer a supported kit. It's quite a few revs back. Julia |
