1849.0. "SYS0005: Access denied on net share on server" by NNTPD::"guenther@mail.dec.com" (Alan Guenther) Thu May 08 1997 17:46

Obviously I'm doing something dramatically wrong, but I can't find it. I've
looked thru this conference for the problem...

I've installed V6.1A on my DEC Unix V4.0 system, the server is part of a
Domain.

All I get is the above error, e.g.

 sbudev2> net share
   Error 5 has occurred.
   SYS0005: Access denied.

I'd appreciate a pointer toward the solution of this problem.

                              thanks, /alan

Well, did the ivp run? You can run lmivp in /usr/net/servers
/lanman/bin.
Did you run pwsetup kernel and pwsetup configure as per the
installation instructions?
Is this machine the primary in the domain?

re: .1

Yes, the IVP ran, no problems.

Yes, I did the configuration stuff as specified by the installation dialog.

This system is a backup domain controller.

Some other wierdness:
   1. the net share works if I'm superuser.
   2. I can create users and groups on the primary domain controller.
I just can't see into the Unix system from the outside.

                                                       thanks, /alan

Yes, You need to be root or logged on with a lanmanager account in order to view shares.
Executing net commands while logged in with a Unix account will get you the
access denied error message. (Sys0005)

From where exactly? Does the bdc see the pdc? Can any clients connect to the bdc? to the
pdc? Are the bdc and the pdc in the same subnet?

PRobably this is a bogus problem then

My real problem is that I cannot access the Unix server from any client. The
bdc can see the pdc. The clients can connect to the pdc. The bdc and the
pdc
are on the same net, and are even in the same cabinet. But I cannot map
shares
on the unix system.

I can create users which the pdc sees when logged into the pwadmin on the Unix
server...

Is this the right place to get help?

                                                          thanks again, /alan

1849.5Same error: SYS0005: Access deniedNNTPD::"dani@furka.zuo.dec.com"Daniel Garavaldi Open System Support Wed May 28 1997 07:5455
I received the same error msg. as in 1849.0 mentioned. I was logged as root
and I couldn't perform net share.

I run lmivp and pwsetup and pwconfig. I built a new kernel and reboot the
system. No change. Still the same error.

Then I tried net logon and received the
following:
