645.0. "Batch files more than 8 characters not running" by NNTPD::"cachin@mail.dec.com" (Gilles CACHIN) Mon May 26 1997 09:34

Hi,

I need help for this problem :

I save a batch file on a pw-vms area (5.0e eco1) from windows 95 (or dos
prompt)
which has more than 8 characters (morethan8.bat). When i double-click on it
i receive the following error message : "Bad command or file name". If a
rename
the file (->test.bat), it's ok. I've tried to type its name from the dos
prompt
with and without quote...nothing to do.

Do you have some informations about this problem ???
Thanks,

Gilles CACHIN

Hello,

I've more informations to give you :

From a Windows NT workstation 4.0, this problem doesn't
occurs.

I've noted that no alias (8.3) is created for longfile
name by pathworks on pw file services. On NT file service
the alias is correctly created.

Does it is a bug of Pathworks ?
Thanks for your help...

Sounds like a server bug to me

    Gilles,

Don't know if it's related, but I know there are a couple of IPMTs
against the PATHWORKS server regarding installing new drivers (ie,
NT print drivers) off the root dir of a share - move the files into a
subdirectory and the server finds the files w/o problem.

So, if your batch file is in the root dir of the PATHWORKS share, move
it down to a subdir and see if it works...

Paul,

Thanks for your help, but nothing to do, always the same problem.
I'll open an IPMT and write a reply with the reference for all
interested people.
