Title: Split custody

My spouse and I have separated and expect to be divorced within the next few
months. We have two children, a son in his early teens, and a daughter in her
late teens. We have all agreed (as well as children can agree to somthing like
this...) that our son will live with my spouse and our daughter with me. We
have already established two households close enough that they can visit each
other and the NCP, spend the night, etc. very easily. Each has his/her own
bedroom in both households.

I would be interested in others' opinions of and experences with split
custody.

The only experience I have had is the following:
I have a child living with me who visits her natural father and my husband has a
daughter that visits us. We tried to arrange the visitation so that my hubby and
I would have a weekend alone. In your case where the split is there, you might
want to try one weekend having both children and then the next with just one.
Each month you might arrange a weekend alone so that the other parent has both.
This way both children can have time together but also quality time alone with
the non-custodial parent.
