59.0. "Happy Mother's Day" by CSC32::K_JACKSON (Keep coming back, it works!) Fri May 11 1990 11:33

Since Sunday is Mother's Day, I'd like to wish each and every mother a

			HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!!

		       (copied from note 11.0)

			    A Special Creation
						- author unknown

When the good Lord was creating Mothers, He was into His sixth day of
overtime when an angel appeared and said, "You're doing a lot of fiddling
around on this one."

And the Lord said, "Have you read the specs on this order? She has to be
completely washable, but not of plastic; have 180 moveable parts, all
replaceable; run on black coffee and leftovers, have a lap that disappears
when she stands up, a kiss that can cure anything from a broken leg to a
disappointing love affair; and six pairs of hands."

The angel shook her head slowly and said, "Six pair of hands! Lord, no
way!"

"It's not the hands that causing me problems," said the Lord. "It's the
three pair of eyes that Mothers have to have."

"That's on the standard model?", asked the angel.

The Lord nodded. "One pair that sees through closed dooors when she asks,
'What are you kids doing in there?' when she already knows, another pair in the
back of her head that sees what she shouldn't, but what she has to know, and,
of course, the ones here in the front are so she can look at a child when he
goofs and say, 'I understand and I love you' without so much as uttering a
word."

"Lord," said the angel, touching His sleeve gently, "Come to bed...
Tommorrow..."

"I can't," said the Lord. "I'm so close to creating something so close to
myself. Already I have one who heals herself when she is sick, can feed a
family of six on a pound of hamburger, and get a 9-year old to stand under a
shower."

The angel circled the model of the Mother very slowly. "It's too soft."
she sighed.

"But tough!" said the Lord excitedly. "You cannot imagine what this Mother
can do or endure!"

   "Can it think?"

"Not only think, but it can reason and compromise," said the Creator.

Finally, the angel bent over the and ran her finger across the cheek.
"There's a leak," she pronounced. "I told you that you were trying to put too
much into this model, Lord."

"It's not a leak," said the Lord, "It's a tear."

"What's it for?" asked the angel

"It's for joy, sadness, disappointment, pain, loneliness, and pride."

"You are a genius!" said the angel.

The Lord looked somber. "I didn't put the tear there," He said...

59.1Is there a day for stepmoms?BUSY::NPEASLEEFri May 11 1990 11:4710
You must have read my mind. I was going to put a note in
for Mothers Day. My context is a but different though. I am
interested in whether or not people think that stepmoms
should also be appreciated on Mother's Day. If you are a stepmom
do you have any expectations?? If you are a non-custodial dad
would you encourage your children to do anything special for
their stepmom or for their mom? For any other readers - what do
you think - should stepmoms have their moment?

Thanks for any replies and HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!

Well, I heard somewhere that October 6th of each year is step-parents
day.... I'm really glad to have my own day!!! It's hard enough to
share everyother holiday, at least this one we don't have to share!

    Happy Mother's Day!

I don't expect anything from my step-son on Mother's Day. In fact,
I don't expect anything from anyone on Mother's Day, but I know my
husband and his son will do something for me anyway. My daughter is
only 6.5 months old - a bit too young to make me a card to hang on
the fridge, but chances are my husband will go out and get me something
"from Ally". Then he and Craig will probably do something like
make breakfast for me, but they know they don't have to. After all,
I'm not *their* mother so they shouldn't be getting me anything.
They already show a lot of appreciation for me throughout the whole
year (well, my husband doesn't *always* :-) ) and I really appreciate
them for that. I make sure that my step-son always has a card and
some type of gift for his mom - I think that's important, because he
feels good when he has a gift for her. We do this for Christmas and
her birthday too, and I know she really appreciates it as well.

    Happy Mother's Day to all

I don't expect anything from my stepchildren on Mother's Day. I try to
always remind them that I am their friend, not their mother.

However, when David and I were dating, he totally surprised me one year
on Mother's Day with a gift. He said that it was a "thank you" for helping
him with his children, and helping to "mother" them. I was so shocked, and
had never even dreamed of being anything but a daughter on Mother's Day.

The next year mother's day came and went, and I guess my feelings were
a little bit hurt because I had done so much for his children over the past
year, and had kinda expected some recognition. Last year we were married
and he got me something "from Kati" but did not mention the boys. If I get
anything from the boys, I already know David was the one who did it, so it
wouldn't mean much.

    Thanx Kenn.....

I told my daughter all I want for Mother's Day is for her to clean
her room! The way it looks, it might take her until Father's Day!
    Ha! HA!

Thanks for the poem. What a guy!
