I finally got around to it, but here are a few of the things to do in
Denver. Some of them I've tried, some of them I've only heard of from
other singles. I will denote the difference as I go. I am not
involved in a business sense (other than as a customer) so I hope it
doesn't sound like advertising, because it is not. Anyway, here is a
list of a few fun things.
Common Interests: This is an organization that puts on a variety of
singles events in Denver. Rachel, who runs it, knows how to create and
environment where singles can have a good time. Some of her events
are:
Singles dinners - She gets an equal number of men and women and has a
dinner where people can get acquainted. You change tables several time
during the evening so that you can meet more that just the people at
one table. I've been to this a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed
it. You can get the phone number of anybody there from Rachel up to a
week after the event (unless they've asked her not to give it out).
Singles networking party - This one is a little more difficult to
describe. As before she strives for an equal number of men and women
and puts them together in a setting where you play games that get you
out talking to and meeting other people. I know my feeble explanation
makes it sound silly, but it really is a lot of fun.
She puts on an annual 4th of July singles raft trip with optional
camping. I went to this and had a blast. I went the first year they
had it and she was unable to keep the men ratio 50:50. There were 24
men and 16 women (darn). Afterward, there was a barbecue and
volleyball etc.
She also puts on some classes on where to go to meet singles. This
focuses on adapting your own lifestyle to what you want to find rather
that some universal formula.
The number for this group is 303-778-0018. They ask for a $15.00 a
year fee to stay on the mailing list, but it is not required to attend
the events. I just call up the number and get the schedule off the
message. This group is a lot of fun, try it.
CFU (Colorado Free University) puts on a Sunday evening singles
gathering that includes discussion, speakers, buffet dinner etc. I
haven't tried this one but some other people I have talked to say it is
a lot of fun. It costs $29.00 for a 3 month registration, plus $5.00
each night you go for the food. To me that's almost like a commitment,
but who knows? I might try it sometime. Their number is 303-399-0093.
They also have their own singles events and classes. Call them up and
get a catalog of what they currently have going on.
Y.E.S. (Young enthusiastic singles) from the Mile Hi church does a
number of singles function. They have a weekly singles brunch at
healthy habits out on West Colfax. They do dances and other sorts of
get togethers. I went to their brunch once and they seem like a nice
group. You don't have to be a member of their church to participate (
I am not religious). Their hotline for information is 303-620-5111.
This will tell you a little bit about their group and tell you about
any upcoming functions. By the way, they had over 300 people at their
valentine dance. I was sorry to have missed it, but alas I had no
choice.
Colorado Mountain club - This in itself is not a singles group, but
they do have a singles group with the group. These people tend to be a
little younger and healthier than the general singles population. I
went to one of their mixers and had a good time. I don't know their
number, but I am going to work out this Sunday with a girl from that
group and I can get it if anybody is interested.
If you like country dancing, there's a place near here called Stampede
that gives country dance lessons several nights a week. I haven't
gone, but several people from work have mentioned that there are a
number of propectable young ladies and a good time to boot.
There's a place not too far from here called the Comedy club. They
will give you a free party for you and several (usually up to 40) of
your friends if you throw a card in their drawing bowl. If anyone is
interested, let me know and I will run down and throw in a card and let
you know when the party is. My mail address is CUJO::PADILLA, my home
phone number is 303-766-1021. I am a resident out at a customer site,
so I don't have DTN. The bottom line is, go out and have some fun. If
an aging computer nerd with a receding hairline, glasses and pocket
portector like me can do it, I know some of you more studly types ought
to have a blast.
Happy prowling
