    I also have a difficult time shaving, so am always looking for
    something "new".  I was reading "Men's Guide to Fitness" on the plane
    the other day and came upon a suggestion.  Wash your face, and then
    coat it with a thin layer of oil (I used olive oil), and then stand in
    the hot shower for several minutes.  Get out of the show, wipe off the
    excess oil, apply shaving cream, and go for it -- the whiskers came off
    like butter.  Of course, you have to make sure you wash the oil off
    well after the shave.

    If you are inclined to dry skin, consider leaving a thin layer of olive
    oil on your skin after you're done.  You can blot it with a tissue to
    keep it from getting it on your shirt.  Olive oil is the best oil for
    the skin imho.
    
    If you have oily skin, you might have pimple problems with this
    technique.  If you remove all the oil by washing with soap, it can dry
    out and irritate the skin, trapping your facial oil and causing
    breakouts.  If you don't remove the oil, you'll just add to your
    natural problem.  
    
    If your oily skin is not in the beard area, you can probably use this
    technique and remove all or most oil when you're done.  If you start to
    break out even a little bit, stop right away.

    It's not fair to have to worry about pimples and wrinkles at the same
    time!!
    

 If you shave after showering, your beard will be softer and will be easier to
shave. This can be helpful for men with tough beards but sensitive skin.

    
    I shave while I shower using the shampoo from my hair as lather, sure
    saves time.

    
    I use the shower to both clean up and WAKE up, to that end, I stay
    clear of sharp objects until AFTER my coffee. 8)

    On the advice of a sage (my dad), I started applying Lubriderm to
    my face after washing it, and before putting on the shaving gel.
    
    It worked like a CHARM!  No more shaving the night before to avoid
    bleeding all over my shirt collars.  No more nicks.  No more razor
    burn.
    
    When I hop in the shower, I first wash my face and hair.  Then I apply
    the lotion, then wash the rest of my bod, then apply the gel and shave 
    with a mirror I keep IN the shower.  It's like a dream come true!

    I put my chin down and then drag my fingers over the skin towards my
    mouth and just ahead of the razor.  One swipe usually takes it all off.

    
    dry shaving whilst shoving off down I280 in the morning sure
    saves time. 
    
    i often slide into the passing lane ahead of a bimah as i put
    the finishing touch on my liphairs.

    Real men dry-shave with a straight razor.

    I last shaved probably in June of 1972.
    This was just after I left the army.
    People were always asking me about 3pm if I had shaved
    this morning and so I thought the best thing to do was not to
    bother.  Definitely a wise choice.

electric razors.

These "shower safe" razors.  Do you really plug them in while you use them ?
Or are they precharged.


I shave in shower too.  After washing entire bod, which gives face time to
soften up, I just make regular soap lather in my hands and apply to face and
shave in shower.  However, I try to use the kind of shower that lets me
lower the volume while shaving so I don't feel to guilty about wasting water.

When I go to Kripalu (Yoga Health Center, wonderful place, across street from
Tanglewood), I sit in sauna for 5 minutes until I'm sweating profusely, then
I shave in there without any additives to my face, not even water! (just my
own sweat).  Works wonderfully.

They are rechargeable; you don't use them while they are plugged in.  I
imagine they use an induction loop to transfer power from the charger so
as to avoid the need for exposed terminals.  Most electric toothbrushes work
this way.

    Last time I was in NYC I went to Macy's Clinique counter and got the
    whole shaving regimen.  It was no better than Edge Gel, took twice as
    long to shave, and about 10 times as much.

As I said once, long ago in the previous version of mennotes.  I can't grow
a beard worthy of the name (to busy using my hormones for more important 
things ;-) because it is patchy and light.  

Two solutions.  One is a shaving oil I found in Peoria (I'll enter the info
on it later when I remember to bring it in) that is marvelous.  Hardly ever 
nick myself, no irritation (and I have such a baby face), and when I am done
my face is as smooth as the classic "baby's butt"  (you listening Michelle 8-).

Solution number two - electrolysis - it does work but for a face like mine  it 
will take about 200 hours of treatment.  That is expensive, time consuming and
a little painful, but, I still want to follow through as I can because I REALLY,
REALLY hate to shave.

I dunno, I like the mentholated smell and it works better than anything I
ever tried before.  I guess it is kinda like when I am looking for something,
when I find it I quit looking.

I did, but I gave them away.
There might be, but at the price this stuff cost you can probably afford 
the gamble.

I've used disposable rasors for some time now - they seem to last longer than
real blades for some reason.

I found a type that I like. They are the BIC Metal rasor. Anyway - I've been
looking for more and can't find them anywhere. I'm using BIC twin blades at the
moment but they are not as good.

So has anyone seen them in the Eastern MA area? I think I got them at CVS but
I'm not sure. Anyway I haven't seen them in any of the CVS stores I've been in
recently.
