    A little of both. Our wedding anniversary is two days before
    Valentine's day. On out honeymoon I didn't have a card for my wife.
    She had one for me as was mildly upset that I hadn't prepared better.
    I've been better prepared since then.

    I like to do special things for my wife but in a 7 week period there
    is Christmas, wife's birthday, wedding anniversary, and Valentine's
    day. By the latter I'm out of ideas. And money. So usually she gets
    a card. Which is what she gives me so I guess it's ok. It's always
    been an even thing with us. She treats me very well.

    St. Valentine's Day is yet another example of a Christian tag being
    placed on a previously existing celebration. (Since Valentine was
    martyred by one of the usual unpleasant methods, I've always thought
    him a singularly inappropriate saint to be associated with love and
    friendship. "Happy Valentine's Day! <crunch>)
    
    I think the original (uh, well, the "original" might be hard to
    determine - make that "prior") holiday was a Roman one (they had so
    many fine party ideas) called Lupercalia, something to do with birds
    mating. 
    
    The Valentine's Day card business looks like a Victorian thing (I
    wonder if it's coincidence that the rise of industrialization seemed to
    be related to the rise in products for which a market had to be
    created - like greeting cards?). I'd guess men were supposed to do the
    giving because most women didn't have their own money (and/or were the
    ones to be "courted"); the return of a shy glance or a smile was
    supposed to be the man's reward for the flowers or whatever. (I think
    the ante has been upped in recent years...)

    So, who's this Cupid guy?  Where did that "tradition"/"myth"
    come from?
    
    I'm hoping to do something special, too.  I just don't know what it
    will be, yet.  The Nuggets are playing the Sixers on Friday.  How do
    you think tickets to the game will go over???

    Cupid, the son of Venus, was the Roman god of love.  The Romans
    considered him to be fully adult and eminently virile.  His Greek
    counterpart was Eros, from which we get words like "erotic."
    
    His transmogrification into a baby is of uncertain origin, but Venus
    was often pictured with cherubs around her, attending to her needs, and
    I suspect that Cupid sort of got mushed in with the cherubs as part of
    the standard Christian misinterpretation of others' mythologies.

Yep, we clubbed together, got Lorna to buy the boxers, and then posted them
to you anonymously. We just thought that a 6'2" nightmare of man might look
good in a pair of silk boxers with hearts. Kinda cute, huh ?

    Now Bubba, Valentine's Day is not just for women.  Men get 
    more ads directed towards them cause they forget, aren't
    the sensitive types, or don't like to shop.  Women just 
    give naturally.  ;^)

	The Boys and men got presents give confectinaries to girs and women
	gave presents. ( the reason is advertisement of  major confectionaries.

    no, this is not for me, man , i think if a woman comes and tells me

Well .. in keeping with the fact that I am a man of honesty and integrity
I will keep my promise.

Bubba has indeed received, by Federal Express, a very nice pair of silk
boxer shorts, with hearts on 'em, from a female_lady_wimmins of WIMMINNOTES
fame.  Not only that, but they were wrapped in Hallmark paper with a nice
touchie-feelie-mushie type card.

My social schedule demands that I do only one showing.  It may be either
a private showing or I will model them at the next WIMMINNOTES party.  You
need only to let me know.
