693.0. "Until next time (not goodbye)" by OXNARD::HAYNES (Charles Haynes) Wed Dec 04 1991 17:45

[Some of you must be getting awfully tired of seeing this. My apologies.]

I've accepted a position with Apple Computer as of December 9th, my last day
at Digital will be this Friday, December 6th. I don't know my new e-mail
address yet, but I'll post it in this string as soon as I find it out.

The East Coast version of my going away party will be Friday December 13th, at
Jody Bobbitt and Amy Goldman's house. The party will start around 7pm and end
at 2am. The party will be a pot-luck, please RSVP to Jody (LEZAH::BOBBITT) to
let her know if you're coming and what you'll bring. We have an upper limit of
50 attendees, so please RSVP to Jody to get directions and give us a count.
Smoking will be allowed on the back porch, drinking to excess is strongly
discouraged. (I want to TALK to people dammit, and talking to drunk people is
boring.)

I'm really looking forward to seeing my friends again, this WON'T be the last
time I come out to the East Coast, so it's not a permanent "goodbye."

"Costumes" encouraged but not required. Hugs cheerfully given and received.

	-- Charles

P.S. More later, I'm late for Jury Duty (again).

P.P.S. This party is being advertised in a number of different places (the
Bi conference, Womannotes, maybe Soapbox.) Thought you might like to know.

    Charlie,

Got one dumb question........ Being a het and all..... Whacha mean by
costumes? As in the ant-leers as a raindeer? Or something else??

    George,

I know I'm not Charles but he is quite skilled at costumes, like
Halloween costumes. I've seen him both in pictures and in person.

Talk about enlightening. Take a look at the difference in responses
to Charles' good-bye note here and in =wn=.

I didn't put one in =wn=. So, Charles, I'll miss your words of wisdom.
We have met, by the way, though you may not remember me. You were
somehow consulting with my group and we all ended up over at the
Bangkok Restaurant for lunch. It was a while back. Best wishes from
    me for your new job.

Hoyt - you'd be welcome. I've found that meeting someone in person, even
someone I've "exchanged words" with can be a lot of fun. Somehow people "in
person" turn out a lot nicer than they come across in notes. Besides I hold
very very few electronic grudges. (For example, I hope Herb can make it too.)

George - you needn't wear a costume, will you be there? You still owe me a
cuppa if I recall...

Michael - you had *@#$( well better fix the #$&*((&ing PTRACE request codes! :-)
(hmm, if Apple has any DEC hardware, perhaps I should submit a CLD? :-)

Vick - I do remember you from back in the days when our groups were working
together. By the way, if you think the replies here have been "enlightening"
check out some of the replies in Soapbox. What fans I have. :-)

Hope to make the party Charlie, wanna coffie with you. Yes, I just
getting silly with you. Didn't know to show up in costume with the
Rocky Horra Picture Show, or to bring a wooden stake, some garlic,
stuff like that. Just funning with you, of course. Still going to miss
    your wit.

The Western Edition of this party will be at my house, this Sunday, from noon
till 8pm. I will provide a barbecue (eat your hearts out snowbound folks) main
dishes, and beverages. Please bring salads, munchies, dessert, or more
beverages. Directions to my place on request.

My new email address is haynes@apple.com or DECPA::"haynes@apple.com" I don't
know my new work number yet. If people want my home address feel free to send
me mail.

I'm really going to miss noting at DEC. I know I'll still see some of you
around, but there will also be many of you that I've come to know and like
that I will never see again. Good luck and blessings on you all.

See you at the party!

    Charles --

In the last year or so I decided that you are the premier noter here
and in SOAPBOX -- based on the depth and breadth of your knowledge, and
on your skill and passion as a debater.

    Kit

P.S. My only disappointment was in your list of periodicals -- while it
does reflect what appeared to be a scientific bent, it seemed slightly
    narrower than I expected.

P.P.S I'd have prefered putting this in SOAPBOX, but didn't see a
    farewell there.

    Charles-

Good luck to you in your new job. I will miss your presence in the
'Box, in particular, in providing some counter-balance, and a
strong alternative point of view, from what usually prevails
    there.

    You will be missed.

Well Kit - I'm floored. Thanks for the compliments. My Goodbye in Soapbox is
tacked on to note 46. I didn't list *all* of my periodicals - mostly because I
don't read them all regularly... :-)

Bye Roger. I wish we could have met in person.
