| When I went for a physical this past summer my doctor reminded me that
I should examine myself approximently monthly, to check for lumps. He
said that it was best done just after a warm shower as the warm loosens
up the scrotum. I remarked that I had heard about doing exams, but had
not been very regular about doing them.
I would say that information about testicular cancer is about where
information about breast cancer was 10 years ago. These days most
women are aware of the possibility of developing breast cancer and do
regular self exams. Unfortunately, it seems that information for men
about testicular isn't talked about very much.
From what I've read: If your friend does has cancer, the testicle will
have to be removed. If cancer is only in that one testicle he can
resume normal activities once he has healed from the operation. There
should be no loss of fertility or desire.

| I have a cyst on one of mine. The did an ultrasound on it. Tell your
friend to do what he has to do so that they can find it. I had to hold
it in an unusual position so it could be found on the ultrasound other
they would not have seen it.

BTW It doesn't hurt. It is a little messy. They try to reduce your
uneasyness about it and to help with privacy. They asked me if they
could let a trainee try it after the tech had done it. Turned out, the
trainee was a she, which didn't really bother me. I say this because
your friend's may be a woman.
