427.0. "Women's International" by FDCV06::THERIAULT () Wed Mar 14 1990 18:47

The PKO Cluster Valuing Differences Program sponsors events
to celebrate the diverse groups which make up the Digital
workforce and to bring awareness of this diversity to anyone
who may want to attend the event.

To this end, the Women's International Celebrations Committee
at PKO invites both men and women to the below listed events.

Please also note that attendance at these events is NOT
limited to the PKO population only. The PKO Cluster Valuing
Differences Program welcomes ANY Digital employee at their
events who is interested in celebrating and/or learning about
the richness of difference around us.

"The Stone Center Project -- A Project about Women at Digital"
		Monday, March 19, 1990
	  Maynard Conference Room, PKO3-1/D8
		     8:30 to 10:00

Speaker:	Laura Woodburn, Distributed System Software Group
			        Stone Center Project Manager

The Stone Center Project was initiated in 1987 by Bill Heffner,
V.P., and his staff. Its purpose was to investigate the
experience of women in the Software Systems Group and to make
recommendations that would increase that organization's ability
to attract, retain, and reward the strengths of female employees.
The recommendations were approved in 1988, and implementation of
these recommendations is now in progress in DSSG, the new software
organization managed by Bill Strecker, V.P. In this talk, Project
Manager Laura Woodburn will discuss the process used to explore
women's experiences at Digital. She will summarize the common
themes that emerged and the recommendations which resulted,
and she will report on progress made to date in implementing the
changes suggested by the Stone Center Task Force.

"Women's History and Literature through Poetry and Drama"
          	   Thursday, March 22, 1990
	       Admin Conference Room, PKO3-1/15A
		        12:00 to 1:00

Women's history lives through women's writings. Experience a
suffrage meeting during the 1850's . . . feel the pain of
discrimination . . . share in the joy of women's lives.

Bring your friends -- and your lunch -- to an hour of dramatic
poetry and prose reading by Carolann Gillard and Maryann Thompson.

Carolann, Order Management System (OMS) Post Delivery Manager,
has been a Digital employee for 14 years. In addition to this
work, Carolann spends much of her free time working for women's
equality. She is the President of the local chapter of the
National Organization for Women (NOW) and has been an organizer
and public speaker regarding women's issues for many years.

Maryann has been employed at Digital in a variety of positions
for 13 years and is currently the Department Coordinator for the
PKO SSMI Employment organization. She is an active church member
and spent 4 years preparing high school students for the
Sacrament of Confirmation. In addition, she is an Eucharistic
Minister and takes Communion to the Marlboro Hospital and a
community nursing home on a weekly basis. She has also facilitated
parish meetings for members who are single, divorced, separated,
or widowed.
