347.0. "Time Apart Can Be Awful Hard Sometimes...." by WJO::COOK (Shadows Of Another Day) Fri May 19 1989 12:06

Have you ever had to spend some time away from your SO? How did
it feel, and how did you cope with the loneliness?

I'm very close to my SO, and he went away hunting for a couple of
days, and I find myself feeling different than I've ever felt before..
I never realized i depended on him that much or needed him this
much. . . It is a strange feeling, and somehow i feel like just
this little time apart is going to make us appreciate each other
so much more after he gets back...

Am I crazy, or have other people felt this way before??? Tell me
what it was like, and what you did to try and get back to normal
    while your SO was away...

    Thanks...
    Angela.

    Angela,
your not crazy, your in love. I spent a week away from
my wife while on a business trip. I felt only half of me was
there. The separation is good for your relationship. My wife and
I make a separate religious retreat every year. We find the separation
helps us to appreciate our relationship more.

    Peace
    Jim

No, Angela, you're not crazy. I know just how you feel. The first
time I ever felt that way, my boyfriend had only gone away for a
long weekend. Since I'm a very independent person, I thought I would
enjoy that time, and I was very surprised at how much I missed him.
I think it's just part of being in a long-term relationship. The
next time you're separated probably will be easier because you will
be expecting to miss him a lot. You might plan on being very nice
to yourself the next time he is going to be away.

I don't think you're crazy - just normal and in love.

In a past job, I traveled on business quite a bit, and when
I returned home, there was a certain spark - the separation was
a positive in terms of the relationship.

This separation definitely had a positive effect on our relationship..
he just got home and we are closer... i think we both realized just how
much we really needed each other, and as much as it hurt, it helped
greatly... things had been a bit shaky before, but now they are
    stronger than ever!!
