I've been pulling grey hairs for over a year now. Looks
like a losing battle. I'm only 35 also....I too am very
disturbed by them. Short of dying my hair (which I don't
want to do), I guess I'll just keep pulling and learn to
    live with the strays.

Maybe it bothers me so much because I don't LOOK 35, or
act 35 either (now I'm going to get a barrage of replies
asking what a 35 year old person looks and acts like!!).
I keep myself in pretty good physical shape and don't have
many wrinkles....just these darned tell tale grey hairs!!!

I've had grey in my hair, in significant amounts, since I was 17.
I'm now 33. What's the big deal? If I end up with hair like my old
man, (silver) I'll be happy. He had grey hair noticible in pictures
    when he was 17 too.

135.3And how many do YOU have?OPHION::HAYNESCharles HaynesWed Jul 29 1987 22:1118
A chance for a funny story!

I was in having my hair "done" one day, and my hairdresser remarked
that I was getting gray hairs.

"Yeah, of course, you know where you get gray hairs?"

    "No. Where?"

"You get gray hairs from good sex... I notice YOU don't have any."

The entire shop cracked up... and she sprayed my face with the rinse
    hose.

The moral of the story is, never insult someone while you're in
    the sink.

A friend of mine (age 65) who has a full head of white hair recently
noticed that I was showing quite a bit of grey. I told him I got
it from my kids, as was just mentioned. He laughed, and agreed
(he has kids older than I am so he knows).

I told him that my wife was after me to use grecian to get rid of
the grey, and that with the emphasis on youth in our society, I
was considering it. He said "Don't do it ! Wear that grey with
pride ! You earned it ! It's nothing to be ashamed of ! Be your
self, don't be artificial." Now there's a man that's confident
and comfortable with himself and his life.

So what have I done about the grey ?

    Nothing.

    Yet...

I can't understand why people complain about grey hair! I would
love to have grey hair in MY old age, (in any age for that matter)
You see, I don't have much hair AT ALL!! So any hair, whatever
    color would be welcomed...

Don't worry about your hair turning grey. As a woman I see nothing
wrong with men who have grey hair. But I see something terribly
wrong with the man whose hair colour I can hardly describe. I always
remember one of my college professors; his hair turned purple right
before he needed another touchup. He was described as the professor
    with purple hair.

Or maybe because women who find a good man at 23 hold on to him.

At 50 the available male population for hetrosexual relationships
have diminished for the following reasons.

           Male Female

Original birth rate lower Original birth rate higher
Larger Percentage Gay Lower Percentage Gay
Death takes men earlier Death takes women later
Men remarry quicker Women search for the good man
                                      they missed at 23.

	re: several
I'm in total agreement. I started accumulating grey hair at
about 26. I'm now 39. They don't bother me at all. At about
23 my hair started thinning. I now have a substantial bald
patch. That doesn't bother me either. Why should it? It just
means that my genes are such that they have that effect on
the follicles on my scalp. NBD!

135.11more boys born than girlsULTRA::WITTENBERGDelta Long = -d(sin A/cos Lat)Thu Jul 30 1987 15:0115

Your other reasons make sense, but there are more boys born than girls.
I think the number is something like 51-52% of births are boys. The
crossover after which there are more women than men is around age 19 or 20.
Because women marry earlier, the crossover for single is more single
women than single men until age 25 or so.

A little off the subject but....

I remember hearing somewhere (seem to remember it being 60 minutes)
that gray hair on a man makes him look "distinguished" where as gray
hair on a woman makes her look "old". Sounds like the kind of rot a
Madison Avenue type mentality would think up!

Enjoy your gray hairs. As stated elsewhere, if you loose all or most
of your hair, you'll wish you had the gray ones back! (Maybe you
should keep 'em in a box so you can glue 'em back at a later date if
    need be.) :-)

Yeah, I just discovered at the ripe old age of 29 that I have 2 grey hairs.
I know they're from my parents. They stay out all night partying and never
bother to call. They have absolutely no sense of responsibility...I swear,
parents these days have no respect for their kids....

My grandmother had a friend in high school who had light brown hair
that turned stark white by the time she'd graduated (hereditary)
    - looked nice on her tho, I saw a picture.

I had a counselor at daycamp named Pat who had the most lovely long
gray hair (I used to wish I'D have hair like THAT when I grew up)

Also, my mom says her gray hair is "thicker" (although perhaps also
harder to style) than her normal color was (we all have fine hair
in my family)....and she saved lot$ on body perms she didn't get...

My father had grey temples at age 23. A close friend of mine was
all grey by age 20. He began at age 8! (BTW, women thought this
attribute of his was quite sexy).

I agree with .17--I find myself turning to look at men who have
gray (or graying) hair with "young" (read anywhere from 25 to
    45) faces! I think the combination is irresistable. Matter of
fact, the man I'm going to marry has several silver hairs in his
dark hair AND a bald spot. I can't help it--I think he's beautiful!

So, you gentlemen can do as you please, but there are a lot of ladies
who like and appreciate you as you are. Nothing is sadder to me
than a man or woman who makes obvious attempts at youth. Each of
my silver hairs are a gift from my students ;-)!!

Of course you realize that worrying about your grey
hairs will give you grey hair, right?

Me, i'll turn 30 in 2 months and have had greys since
I was 17. Who cares; not me! My beard just started greying
in the last few months, again, who cares?

135.23What difference does it make...NANUCK::FORDNoterdamusTue Aug 04 1987 22:5413
    Re: .21

I don't see what difference it makes, its the person that counts
not the number of grey hairs they have. I (age 43) have a very
few grey hairs while my wife (age 44) has quite a few grey hairs
and all I see is her getting better with the grey and nothing else.
Also in our equation the genetics of my family is to grey very late
and live very long while her family greys early and live very long
also. If I had known grey hair was going to make her what she is
today I would have died it grey the day we married.

    In my opinion ......

Grey hair on a man or woman has nothing to do with how "old" or
attractive a person is ... it's simply one of those changes
(wanted or unwanted) that our bodies go through. If a person has
grey hair and it makes them feel less attractive then I think they
should do something about it. The most important thing is to like
yourself! I personally love a man with that "hint" or grey.

135.28Grey Hair?...Where?FDCV03::ROSSTue Aug 11 1987 20:2721
I have to admit I'm somewhat vain, and I happen to not like the
"greys" in my hair (definitely more than one). As a result, I
do have my hair colored to my "natural" shade. It's been a while,
so unless I dig out some old pictures of myself, I forget what
    my natural shade is.

Now as luck would have it, I also happen to have a beard and
mustache. These hairy parts like to get greyer even more than
the hair on my scalp, so....I have them colored as well. You
haven't lived until you've had the delicate fragrance of ammonia
wafting up your nostrils as the colorist does his/her magic.

I have this done every 5 weeks, and the price of coloring and
cutting comes to $34.50, not counting the tip. It also takes
about 2 - 3 hours for this whole process.

Is it worth it? Right now it is to me, although I do wonder when
I'll feel that I should let it go "au naturel".

My dad has curly grey hair & he beats time with both his sons. Most of
the women friends/lovers we've had over to the house commented that
they found dad's grey hair quite sexy (his slight Canadian/Irish brogue
doesn't hurt either), so brother & I do hope it is genetic. So far, at
34, I've got a good start in the temples and at the back of my neck (if
the white grows long enough I'll braid a tail!). My brother, 30, has
faint whisps coming in & is very concerned (he's also the only one who
doesn't wear glasses and isn't married).
