45.0. "Male PMS?" by RDGE40::KERRELL (with a little bit of top and side) Fri Dec 12 1986 13:15

Women through their menstrual (sp?) cycle clearly have a biorhythm that
can cause them physical and mental problems (PMS for one).

Do men also have less obvious patterns of behaviour and experience
based on biorhythms?

A womans menstraul cycle has always amazed me, how can the body "know"
when ~28 days have gone by (even if it varies somewhat)?

In my body, the only cycles I'm am aware of are related to heart-rate,
breathing, hunger, sex, etc. None of them are over 24 hours!
Have never noticed any "emotion" related cycles at all.

well the majority of the human race that suffers from hyperactivity
are males.. and to watch the reaction that certain sugars have on
them is every bit as drastic as any ole' PMS!
and the craving associated with eating that sugar comes in cycles..
so it must be connected with their body functions in some way!

Well, since most of the guys I've ever met have been led through life
by their gonads, I'd say you guys were on a cycle 31 days a month!!!
Amazing what those hormones can do....!

There are all kinds of biorythms. Some have a cycle that is daily,
    others are weekly and monthly.

Males have rythms as much as females.

A serious example of this: manic depression seems to follow a 14
day cycle in both men and women.

{RE .2} - The moon tells them.

{RE .4} - If you must spout sexist slogans, at least attribute them to the
sexist finks who originate them. (Susan Brownmiller, in this case.)

I think males should insist on their right to having a cyclic
personality change. PMS should be a valid excuse for bizarre
    behavior without regard to gender.

See my note 131.15 in WOMANSNOTE. Men's moods may not be determined
by clearly defined physiologic cycles, but they sure as hell vary.

45.13PMS is ....REGENT::MOZERWed Dec 17 1986 11:289

PMS stands for "Pre-Menstrual Syndrom". It affects some women
by causing them to be emotionally "down" during the week or so
preceeding the onset of their menstrual period. This is only
a brief definition of it. For more detail, you can refer to
RAINBO::WOMANNOTES. There is a whole NOTE on it in that
conference. I hope this answers your question.

Are you sure about the Taoists? What you describe is a reasonable description
of Tantra - though a bit simplified - but doesn't match what I know about Tao.

There's lots more, but the links between the Taoists and Tantrists are
    beyond dispute.

I know some taoist sexual practices, but I was under the impression that the
specific belief in the magical nature of retained sperm was a Tantric dogma. Do
you have any references to support your claim that the Taoists also believe
it?

Belief in the debilitating effects of ejaculation is actually relatively
widespread, and not limited to Taoists and Tantrics. For example, Victorians
believed semen was a vital fluid, and the loss of it reduced your life force.
This belief owed nothing to either the Tantrists nor the Taoists. Can you
give me references to the Taoist - Tantric connection? It's a subject I'm
quite interested in.

writing about a taboo subject in latin in order to
protect the masses from the knowledge strikes me as
a huge pile of crap. kind of like secret decoder
rings and special handshakes. one hopes to outgrow
that need as one moves out of gradeschool.
