Hi,
I've been reading at the WINDOWS NT SUPPORTING AND IMPLEMENTING 4.0
manual, that
you can have 4 primary partitions and one extended one, which could be
divided into several segments to assign a drive letter to a segment.
Well, I have a primary partition and 1 extended partition with no
segments. In the primary I have DOS and the SYSTEM PARTITION, which of
course is active (FAT). In the extended I have WINDOWS NT.
I can create two additional primary partitions, but
when I try to create another primary partition, which would be number
4, it gives an error saying:
"no more primary partitions can be created on the disk. A disk cannot
hold more than four partitions (including the expected partition but
not including logical drives)"
So at the end, could someone explain how many primary partitios can be
created, three or four.

As far as I know ...
You can create 4 partitions total - in any combination. If
you want 4 primary partitions, you can not have any extended
partitions. It is possible that the manual is worded poorly
(or perhaps incorrectly) - I don't know, I don't have the
manual you are referring to.

| If you created a primary followed by an extended that used up the rest
of the space on the disk there is no more room for another partition.
If you have a spare disk try the following:
- Create small primary
- Create extended of 100mb
- Note that the diagonal lines go one way for extended space and the
other way for genuine free space
NT supports a maximum of 4 partitions:
Up to 3 primaries (or four with no extended partition) and an extended
partition.
An extended partition may contain multiple logical drives.
