104.0. "Bathroom Frolics!" by REGENT::ROSS () Mon Oct 02 1995 11:48

    Are your friends/acquaintances CURIOUS?

I've made an interesting discovery. Everyone thinks I'm naive
    to be so surprised.

Do you think that a person using your bathroom is likely to do
all kinds of extra little things, such as:

o Open your medicine cabinet to discover if you have some
secret health problem for which you're taking medicine

o Look behind your shower curtain, since the cleanliness
there is a reflection of your general cleaniness

Apparently some people put a bag of marbles in their medicine
cabinet so that if a curiosity seeker opens the door, lots of
    noisy marbles fall out!

I have to admit that after hearing about this, I reorganized my
bathroom linen closet (I don't have a medicine cabinet) so that
curiosity seekers won't find a disheveled mess!

SO, what do you think?? My friends said that this is real common!
    Have you ever done this?
Do you think many people do this?
After reading my note, do you plan on making any changes in your
       bathroom?

104.1General BoundarylessnessELESYS::JASNIEWSKIYour mind is in here and mine is alsoMon Oct 02 1995 12:2122

IMHO, it's none of other people's business what I keep in my
    medicine cabinet - period.

I think it's a personal boundary violation; just as it would be if
someone "went through" your purse or wallet.

One reason people do this is to look for drugs; not to find out
what diseases you may have, but to steal them for their own use.

If someone wants to "white glove" the inside of my tub and the top
of my hearth - what can I say? But to go looking behind closed doors -
for any reason besides "Hey! There's no toilet paper!" is a personal
violation to me. Something that would mean to me much more of a sense of
disgust about them, than whether or not a bathtub drain had some hair
    on it -

    	FWIW,

    	Joe

In the past, I used to open people's medicine cabinets when I used
their bathroom. I'm sure glad I never got trapped by the marble ploy !
(although I'm sure I would have come up with some excuse quick like "oh, I
was looking for a Q-tip").

In more recent years (I'm 43 now), I don't tend to open people's medicine
cabinets anymore. The thought certainly enters my mind, but I'm more
willing to "respect their boundaries" now. Maybe it's my 12-step program
that has guided my conscience in that direction...

The only time I look behind some else's shower curtain is when I'm at a
party with a large group of people. I have this incredible paranoia
that some other party guest will be hiding behind the shower curtain to
secretly watch me using the toilet.

I never thought about tub cleanliness checks.

104.4I confess!SHRCTR::SIGELFlock of SigelsMon Oct 02 1995 16:375
I have done it, opened the mysterious medicine cabinet on occasion when
staying at a freinds house over nite. Why? Maybe I forgot some
toothpase, hair gel, dental floss, or something along that line. I dont
do it to be nosey, just when I am in desperate need of a toiletry I
forgot to pack in my overniter:-)

I am never in someones bathroom long enough.
I only care if the seat is clean, and if I need something I'll ask for
    it.
Also, I keep my personal aids well hidden! the only thing you would
find in the med. chest is the usual, stuff, floss, toothpaste,
deodorant, shave-gear, etc....... the drugs & toys are nowhere to be
    found! Only if you ask........

    sorry enough said. Bob

I have looked in other people's cabinets...in the alst 7 years..
it's been for aspirin, toilet paper..stuff like that. yup..
	I'll cop to that.

	I don't check people's tub..etc.

Will I change my bathroom ? No. If you wanna look in
my cabinets go ahead...and, if you're going to judge
me by my bath-tub ring...you're in the wrong house.
Most of the folks in my life today don't come to see
my tub (or any other not-perfect part of my house)
	they come to see me.

I dont look in other peoples medicines cabinets but it wouldnt bother
me if they looked through mine, no matter how untidy it may be.
If they dont like me as they fond me thats just too bad.
I'd be very offended to find someone going through cupboards and
drawers though - thats where anything personal would be and that really
    would be a violation.

yup, if I use someone's bathroom and the shower curtain is closed, I peak
in, not to check cleanliness, but just nervous that someone might be in
there (not that I really expect someone might be, but some kind of nervousness
or paranoia). /Eric

Thank goodness I'm not the only one 8^).

If there are large closets, I check there too. This must have happened
to me in a past life or something.

104.10it's a learning experienceWONDER::BOISSEFri Oct 06 1995 15:337
The only time I'll look in the medicine cabinet or a vanity drawer
is when I'm going to be awhile in the bathroom and I need something
to read, ie. the tube of toothpaste, the can of shaving cream, etc.
Did you know that iso-octylphenoxypolyethoxyethanol is the main
ingrediant in Bactene? Well, that was years ago, and it stuck!!

104.11I hide the good stuff in the master bathSHRCTR::SIGELFlock of SigelsFri Oct 06 1995 18:338
I have two bathrooms, one that is for guest use and the one in the
master that we use for showering etc. So I always have a clean bathtub
with no ring but I always make sure there is no dust in there when I
have guests ;-) My medicine cabinet has make-up articles so there is no
big surprizes. The good stuff is in the master bedroom bathroom ;-)

Thanks for a great pratical joke. I`m going to put an unmentionable
in my medicine cabinet

Just think of what could be behind a shower curtain on Holloween.

No,	I do not look into other medicine cabinets and behind shower curtains.
