582.1Try the Mill!USMRM3::JHUTCHINSThu Sep 22 1988 14:0012
    Lori,

    Have you been to the Mill area (near the canals)? There's a good
    slide show about the history of the textile industry in Lowell and
    also a quilting museum and artists studios/galleries. Every now
    and then they have outdoor concerts and folk festivals. It's part
    of the National Park Service.

    Have fun
    Judi

582.2There is plenty.LOOKUP::ARCHAMBAULTThu Sep 22 1988 14:1914

    There is the Octoberfest coming up. Big carnival and other
    entertainment. Speed boat races. Great clubs to go to.
    Chevy's, Hilton. There is the Lowell Auditorium which has
    concerts and comedy shows all the time. I seen George Carlin
    there. The Saturday Lowell sun avertises all kinds of things.
    A lot of great restaurants.
    Plus right up road in Nashua, on Daniel Webster, Ther are all
    kinds of excellent restaurants.

    Health clubs. New You fitness center has so many things to do.
    A lot of nice people there too.
    I would look through the Lowell Sun. They advertise a lot of things
    that are going on in Lowell.
582.3a million things to doSALEM::SAWYERAlien. On MY planet we reason!Thu Sep 22 1988 15:0415

    lowell isn't far from boston and in boston you have...

    newburry st.
    copley place
    lafayette place
    downtown crossing
    a zillion restaurants.
    a million movies
    plays
    museums (go to the museum of fine arts on saturday before 11
    	and you get in free!)
    or just walk aroundthe city and look at all the beautiful buildings
    and the nice parks....

582.4Lots to do, in a canoe...VIDEO::STEFANIThu Sep 22 1988 17:3410
    Lori,
      If Concord isn't too far away, you can go canoeing...it's not
    only romantic and educational (getting close to nature), but it's
    a nice workout. My arms still hurt from last weekend. It's a place
    about a mile north of the 62 and 2 intersection (keep going North
    on 62) and it costs $30 a canoe for the day.
      Also, look for bowling centers, miniature golf, go-carts, or even
    kite-flying.

582.5RUTLND::KUPTONThe Blame Stops HERE!Thu Sep 22 1988 19:0510
    Lori.....

    For something different:

    The Big E. The Eastern States Exposition is going on in Springfield
    this week. A nice drive and alot of things you don't normally get
    to see during the year. As a side trip go to the new Basketball
    Hall of Fame in Springfield.

    I go to U Lowell, and I know that we are always having different
    concert events open to the public. These concerts range from rock
    to chamber music and are shown on south campus. You can get more
    info. and schedual of shows from the music department. The shows
    are not by students, (some may be but most aren't). If you still
    can't find something you could always go to a Frat party!!!;-)

582.8Merrimack Rep TheaterWMOIS::E_FINKELSEN241-3834Fri Sep 23 1988 13:4214
The Merrimack Rep Theater!

I have only gotten to two of these (because we are poverty stricken while my
husband is a ULowell attendee) but both were absolutely great! Then off to the
hilton for coffee afterwards! Good fun.

Information can give you a phone number to call for upcoming shows.

Another romantic thing to do is to stroll along the Merrimack river in Lowell.
They have a paved walk way (like along the Charles) lined with trees and
benches. They have free concerts and boat races there and you can rent boats at
the boat house.

582.9It never rains on the Bolton FairAWARD1::HARMONFri Sep 23 1988 17:417
    The Bolton Fair is this Saturday and Sunday. Looks like they have
    more rides this year (I passed it on my way to work and they were
    setting up). I'd suggest arriving early so you don't have to park
    too far away.

582.10I'll be there!VIDEO::TAYLORSo much CHOCOLATE! Such tight JEANS!Fri Sep 23 1988 20:0810
    Oh yes, the Bolton fair. You say it never rains? I seem to recall
    a few times that it has rained! One time I was dressed as a clown!
    Let's say I got soaked!

    The Bolton fair is a lot of fun, though. I'll be there all day
    Saturday selling Strawberry Shortcakes. So, if you're there, stop
    by and say hi.
