1160.0. "Law vs Justice" by VISUAL::MOSIER (Imagination, A Dream Can Be...) Wed Apr 24 1991 00:02

Hi!

This note may not fit into the "theme" of this conference but I can't find
another conference that seems appropriate to help me. And, if persued,
this could be a topic that would fit this conference. Anyway...

I am looking for a quote and the source of a quote. The quote deals
generally with a statement about the duty of our legal system being to
uphold the law, not to dispense justice. The source of the quote (I think)
is one supreme court justice to another ( a long time ago).

My primary interest in this quote is as a reference in a speech I am to
give on Victim's Rights in Concord, N.H. on April 25th. If anyone knows
the quote I am refering to please contact me on VISUAL::MOSIER.

If I am totally off base in entering this note here, please forgive me. I
can't seem to find a conference that deals with legal issues (although I
thought we had one at one time) and I'm running out of time.

What you want, i think, is the quote from the statue of Justice,
standing in Washington DC (Blind and holding the scales). I would
imagine the Franklin Pierce Lawschool would have the quotessources
    readily available (their library ?).

ALso try the State Library in Concord NH. When i lived their, they
were very helpful on a number of occasions. Feel free to use my name
is they seem reluctant to help. Bob Early from Nashua. (I now live in
Mass, but I never told them I moved).
