1023.0. "Family Burnt out of Home - Need Clothes & Furniture" by BARTLE::BARRL (Rainbow Connection) Thu Jun 21 1990 18:49

The other night when I came home from work there was a message on my
answering machine from one of our friends telling us that his
girlfriend's sister and her four your children were burnt out of their
apartment. No one was home at the time, so no one was hurt (thank
God). Unfortunately, they had no insurance and they lost everything.
She's a single parent and doesn't make much money, therefore making it
difficult to afford to replace everything that was lost. Right now
they are staying at my friends apartment but should be moving into a
new apartment soon (they were in the process of looking at apartments
at the time of the fire). They could use some furniture to replace the
furniture that was lost (mainly bedroom furniture). They are also in
desparate need of some clothing for the children. There are three girls -
    ages 12, 11 & 7 and one boy - age 9. The 12 year old girl wears a size 8
juniors or medium and a size 8 shoe. The 11 year old girl wears a size 10
or medium girls and the 7 year old wears a size 8 or small girls, they both
wear size 6 1/2 shoes. The little boy wears a size 10 or small/medium and
    a size 6 1/2 - 7 shoe.

If anyone could help out and donate some clothing and/or furniture, it
would be greatly appreciated. I live in Fitchburg and work in West
Concord but would be willing to travel a bit to pick up anything that
anyone would be willing to donate. The family lives in Worcester and
would also be able to pick up anything anyone would like to donate in
    that area.

    Thanks so much in advance,
    Lori B.

I think there is a huge salvation army store in Fitchburg, which could
also probably help (isn't one of their main tasks helping the homeless
or those who are suddenly destitute?).....and there's also a pretty
sizable one in Worcester, and one in Framingham....

I have a son who is almost 12 - he has outgrown lots of his clothes. I think I
still have some left. I live in Brookfield and work in Hudson. I'll check
this week and get back to you - I can probably come up with something.

I would ask that people send mail with specific offers of help,
    rather than replying here. Thanks.

1023.4Update.....JAIMES::BARRLFrankly Scallop, I don't give a clam!Wed Jun 27 1990 16:475
Just thought I'd update this note. The family has gone to a shelter,
so until they move into a new apartment, they won't be needing any
furniture. They are still in need of clothing for the children though.

What size does the Mom wear? As I have lots of clothes (like new)
that are hanging around doing nothing...
