251.0. "Real Men Don't Eat Cliche?" by ZEPPO::MAHLER (Hey Baby Come here often? What's your node?) Sun Mar 22 1987 19:25

After trying to cheer up a friend of mine last night
after splitting with an SO [Funny Term I mean my
parrot is an SO, NO?] I started to make fun of the
various terms that flow around so often in these
situations that they are bonafide cliche's. These
are most often followed by the oft abused term...

    "We need to talk!"

	"I need more space!"

"We need to see other people!" [I had Coke coming out of
my nose when I saw that new 7-Up
ad on the telly. You know the one
where this kid gets blown off
by his gal and he decides to go
run over some chipmunks with his
					macho bicycle?]

"Your too nice!" I can be an asshole, I swear I can! Give me Time!

See the new book by the same author as "Real men don't..":

    		"Nice Guys Sleep Alone"

It makes fun of the same type of cliches. Well recommended.

    I'll call.
I'm sorry, I didn't know it bothered you. (AFTER you've asked him
                                               to stop X times before)
    I'll tell you next time.
I will respect you in the morning.

Shoot I used to have a list of these somewhere......

    Sunshine
P.S The guys who used more than five cliches in one evening got
        dumped out the door!

You call someone on the phone and they say,

" I was just going to call you".

I wonder if you never called them would they have done it?

There's probably a better list for this one, since the O usually isn't S
enough to make it bother one. But as long as I'm here...

"I'm going to let you go now."

Translation:

"You're going to let me go now."

Is ASTRO::CLICHE still open ? These are all probably
covered there, although perhaps in a more light-hearted
    way.
