What am I writing here, an ELF registration? Let me put it to
straight: I'm a former IVIS programmer for Sales Training, a couple
of months ago - IVIS disappeared as quickly as SEXETERA (from Sales
Training anyway). Being somewhat new to Vaxnotes, I never got to see
SEXETERA; I imagine alot of people will never see IVIS either. I hate
seeing things which you pour your guts into disappear. As a result,
I am going to try to do alot of my own censorship (thank you), but I
can't guarantee that all of my transmitted thoughts are going to be
caught by my own personal thought police before escaping into the
    network via my trusty key-punchers.

To take up where I left off, I've been at deck over two years
now...not thinking of leaving, but I'm definately looking around.
Somehow I've managed to scrape together a sense of humor to help me
through this ordeal and that's what I hope I can share with everyone
here. I will try to use humor which is suitable for the "Mr. Rogers"
TV viewing audience so as not to offend anyone.

						-DAV0

p.s. I'm married one year, with no kids or pets, only house plants.

I'm mostly a reader of this conference. Only once in a while will
you see me crawl out of my shell to post a reply.

I'm not a native of Syracuse, I hale from Washington, DC and the
great (well...not that great) state of Maryland. Syracuse is not
much of a party town and most of my good friends are all back in
Baltimore so my social life is at a low ebb these days. I let work
fill up most of my time and Noting is a big part of that.

Hi, I'm Jerry, and this is new to me, to use this medium to discuss
issues of this type, (human relations), although the subject matter
is of infinite importance, to me. To date, I have preferred

3.71Just starting out!NATASH::TASSONECatTue Aug 05 1986 13:2244
    Hi,

A friend of mine (hi Doug) told me that this would be a great
conference for me. Well, here I am. I am an Administrative Secretary
in Stow and have been here for a little over 2 years. I am new
to Human_R but have played around with notes (i.e., THE_PHOENIX:
again, hi Doug). I am presently searching for a *nice* job within
DEC but have found that looking for a full time job *is* a full
time job. And, as it goes, I have *social* obligations as well
as career and I have only 1 brain, 2 arms, 2 legs and what I am
trying to say is this job search really stinks. But, if my social
life keeps me happy, I guess I can't complain.

I will enjoy reading the entries that people have submitted and
when I have something to contribute, I shall give it a go.
By the way, a special subject that I am learning
about and feel close to is the subject of Adult-Children of Alcoholics.
I can share with you my mother's misfortune as only an example but
I am very proud to say that she is a recovered alcoholic for 2 years
now. She has come soooo far but still has a long way to go to start
feeling better about herself. That's the whole point behind this
disease (no control over alcohol and a whole bunch of mixed up
feelings). As her daughter, I have special considerations. I have 3
other sisters and we are all different. I feel that my counseling is
going to make me adjust more fully to a *real* *new* *life*.

What gets to me is that I am now educated about the abuse of alcohol
but my sisters haven't received counselling. And, my mother tells
me: "Back off Cathy, you can't change them. Let them alone and
just strive for happiness your own way."

Well, I work at this every day and I have been much happier than
about a year to two years ago (my father left my mother because of
alcohol: don't let anyone fool you, this is a FAMILY DISEASE!!)

I could go on and on but I will hold off a bit.

I look forward to further discussions on this matter and all comments
    are welcome.

I can talk about *family* divorce but not marital. Hope to hear
    from some of you.

    Cathy

Logical age is 11.

Love Ice Cream, Bicycling, psychology, funky broadway musicals,
and the beach.

When donating blood, the chocolate chips tend to get stuck in the needle.

Enjoy learning other peoples opinions, but sometimes get frustrated
because it's tough to get them to agree with mine.

Hot personal concern is over-population and resulting loss of quality
of life. Get frustrated because everyone doesn't consider this a
hot personal concern.

The first introduction to me is at 3.83. But after reading a recent
note asking for more information at introduction I thought I would
    comply.

Karen - 27 years old. Graduated from Michigan State University
with a degree in Packaging Engineering (for those of you who are
not in the elite as far as what this curriculum offers, I am really
a quality engineer or a manufacturing engineer. I've have been
trained to improve the manufacturing environments of the world,
    thank you).

I presently work in Novi Michigan under the Field Service organization.
I am considered a Project Specialist (in technical terms, I am suppose
to be in training for Field Service Unit Management). The reason
I became interested in "notes" is due to my change of responsibilties.
I'm in my inbetween time. So here I write.

My hobbies consist of sports, but only recently have I become
interested in football since my lastest "friend" is ex-MSU football
player. It was either learn and love or leave and search for other
fish. Well, here I stand. Football helmet on head, six months
of football season started. I do devulge in bowling, tennis, biking,
horsebackriding, reading, go cart racing, video games (by the way,
there use to be a node out there where I could get into games after
hours, does anyone know if it still exist and where?) travel, music
    and fun.

One of my all favor pasttimes is writing short stories. I have
    a million of them.

I am presently searching myself for my next step to further my career.
Since I really haven't completely decided what I want to be when
I grow up, except filthy rich, this decision is getting to be a
real challenge. Although being with DEC for three years has sharpened
my awareness of one thing in particular...I love...(to be continued

3.92Looking for the SunNANOOK::SCOTTLee Scott (Portsmouth Harbor)Mon Sep 01 1986 15:2748
After reading 91 introductions and finding everyone here to be
fastinating as to their descriptions of themselves, I've decided
to enter my intro prior to reading the rest of the conference.

I'm Lee Scott, age 35, married for 5 years seperated for one and
now divorced for one. I have no children.

My interests have been many but 8 years ago I fell in love with
sailing. Up until 2 years ago I had many different hobbies and was
always looking for one main interest which I could share with my
now ex-wife. (Also looking for something I could share with myself
I guess). Now I seem to have given up on all of my hobbies and
interests except for sailing which I do most every chance I can.

I do have a couple of related goals in looking into this notes file.
I set into being, a 10 year plan to leave terra-firma and take to
the open sea's. This is because I've mainly come to dislike the
way our society treats the all mighty $,$$$,$$$.$$ - dishartened
to see the Portsmouth Music Hall being turned into condos.

Maybe the above paragraph is a little extreme comming from me since
I've always been into toys. (The one who dies with the most toys
    wins!).

On a more truthful note - I'm trying to understand a little more
about human relations and other persons views as I am looking for
the closely compatable first mate to sail with to the South Pacific.
The one thing I've atleast figured out is Living with someone on
land is not as hard as living with the same person on water - You
can't cool off an argument by taking a breather in another room
or go visit a friend just to get a way from each other. I don't
    wear sandels.

As for Digital - I'm a Software Specialist working in the field
at customer's sites. Now full time resident at Liberty Mutual in
Portsmouth, N.H. at least for the next 12 months. (It's great living
on my sailboat and working so close. I've got my sea legs and only
the land rocks, not the water.) I've been with DEC for 2 years now
and have enjoyed working with the customers.

For the next few weeks, I'll probably brouse through and then throw
out some questions and thoughts. I usually find trying to express
myself and my feelings a bit difficult so have patients. In the
meantime I'll welcome any vaxmail with questions. Maybe that will
bring me out of the bilges.

Will be talking to all of you later.

Age 43; male; humanly related in well-defined ways to Sara (wife) and
Jordan (son), and in less obvious ways to others too numerous to mention.
Life events summary: born once, married once, divorced none, (and haven't
died yet), so don't have as much first-hand experience as some with several
of the more popular topics in this file.

At DEC for 14 years now, mostly in Marlboro but recently moved to VMS group
in Spitbrook Road (Nashua, NH).

Have had a long-standing interest in psychology, sexuality, etc. through
the "sexual revolution" of the '60s and '70s, but was too busy hacking
computers to be on the revolutionary front lines. Had just discovered
sexcetera in time to see it be mapped into the complex plane. Have been
reading and writing here but only sporadically due to vacations,
relocations, work, etc. Am fairly open-minded ("live and let live"),
mostly uninhibited in appropriate situations, but disinclined to risk
physical dangers, pain, diseases, etc. Strongly supportive of freedom of
speech, rights of privacy and non-interference by the state, and individual
choice in general.

Oh yes... I also like dancing. That's a relationship isn't it?

Just a quick hello to the many out there that I already know (i.e.
other noters' parties) and to the new acquaintances I know I'll
be making. For the most part, (there are always exceptions..and
so goes life) its a pretty refreshing group of folks in this con-

am currently working in Stow as a Financial Consultant in F.S.

I'm female and 33.....(just so you can place my responses in

I've been following this notesfile for quite some time now. As I enjoy
philosophy a great deal, I have enjoyed many of the discussions in this file.
Interestingly, VIDA V1.0 was a read-only database system; V2.0 will have a write
capability ( assuming I get it to work! :-) ). It occurred to me the other
day that I've been using NOTES in the same fashion I would use VIDA -- as a
read-only facility! So I've decided to try and start contributing; one problem
I've noticed is that by the time I get around to catching up ( you folks are
incredibly prolific! ), someone else has stated views close enough to my own
that I don't feel warranted in writing my own note. Well, someday...

	See ya 'round the network!

Well ... The stats first:
With Dec 3 years now, just about all in Ed Services in New
York dealing with VMS. Age: 25, height: 6'2", available (for what?)

I'm usually interested in anything that's new or different, but left
entirely to my own devices, I would probably lean towards theatre,
movies, bicycling, and museums. Throw in travel, hopefully to locations
in the warmer climes.

Really love NY! Always has something to do, new or to try out. Gives
the same challange that keeping up with all the notesfiles would.

I hope to have the time to really get into this conference, as I
have recently decided to stop waiting for the perfect woman and will
actvely go out looking for her. (The search is the null process,
which is getting some cpu time finally via priority boosts!) I can
always use some debugging of the I/O routines I use to access ...
(no, I don't talk like this when I go out!)

Also consider myself a good database about the Big Apple, so if anyone
has questions (you could try NY1MM::NEWYORK) fell free to drop a
line or two.

Just finished these 2000+ notes; you folks sure love to talk! That's
OK, though, there are too many better subjects to talk about, in my
opinion.

Anyway, my name is Carl Fisher, I'm a Software Engineer II working for
the PDP-11 Languages Group here at Spit Brook in Nashua, NH. I'm coming
up on 25 years old (in April), and I've recently moved to Lyndeborough,
NH, where I and 6 good friends bought a big post-Victorian house together
and have been enjoying fixing it up. I like cars, downhill skiing, and
many other dangerous activities.

My noting style, however, I would classify as "conservative", with
occasional lapses into elaborate, pseudoscientific, BS theories (watch
out!)

See you 'round,
Carl

Hi.. my name is Steve Lidster and I work in Reading, England.

I have been with DEC for about a year and I work for the European
Applications Development Group where I support Finance systems in
Europe. This means I travel quite a lot to various places in Europe.

On the personal side, I have recently seperated from my wife after
five years of marriage and I have a 4 year old daughter called
Charlotte. I live in Guildford in Surrey but I originally came from
Liverpool. I passed the big 3 zero last July but so far it doesnt
seem to have had any great detrimental affect !

I was glad to find this notesfile and it has been a help while I
have been going through my personal situation. Now I have moved
from reading notes to replying.. I may even progress to writing
    one.

3.178time to introduce myselfNECVAX::HODGESThu Feb 12 1987 16:0623
    Hi!

I've been a reader for awhile & am really enjoying it! Something
happened recently (read that yesterday!) that makes me want to enter
a topic so guess protocol requires that I introduce myself.

I've been with Digital almost 14 years; half of that in New England.
The rest split between Philadelphia and Dallas. I was part of Software
Services, then Engineering, and now US HQ Sales Support (I LOVE
    talking to customers!!!)

    I'm single and have an almost teen-age daughter.  She's adopted;
she first came to live with me as a foster child when she was about
2 1/2. Lived with her mother for 5 months around age 3, but has
been with me ever since! She's a delight, although abuse and desertion
at that early age did leave their scars and we're trying to deal
    with those!

In my free time (Digital and daughter don't leave much!) I like
to play tournament bridge and also love spectator sports (TV or
in person!) I swim, play volleyball and tennis VERY infrequently
and I read when I have a stretch of UNINTERRUPTED time (mostly on
    airplanes!

3.185Who is that guy?CADSYS::BURDICKEd Burdick HLO2-2/G13, dtn 225-5051Sun Mar 15 1987 23:0045
This is a very interesting conference. Since I have added some to it, there
should be a place for you to find out what kind of person is saying these
things:

	Name	- Ed Burdick
Group	- SEG/CAD (semiconductor engineering group, Hudson, Ma)

Personal - Married 16 years to Andrea, whose family is about as
different from mine as is possible (well, pretty different). The
differences in our families (Protestant/Jewish, working class/business
owners, intact family/divorced, mayflower English/Fiddler on the Roof
Russian), though a little tough at first, have merged very nicely to
the point that our children (two girls, 8 and 10) seem to be getting
the best of both. We are both native Californians, and we came to
	New England in July, 1980.

I am 39, and going through some kind of "midlife crisis" type
transition, but I would not call it a real crisis. Maybe more on that
	in another note later.

School - BSEE/CS Berkeley, 1970. Can't get excited about more
degrees, but learning is still a lot of fun.

Work - Moved to DEC in 1980, after 9 years in the semiconductor
industry, designing CPU chips. After spending 4 years on the 8200/
8300/uVAX-II, I joined the SEG/CAD group, and as a consulting engineer
on the hardware side, started doing software engineering. Interesting
transition, and not as hard as you might think. I have flopped back
and forth between management type and individual contributor roles
	for a long time.

	Hotbuttons -

Hero worship and the star system in engineering is getting
worse and doing a lot of harm. Too many of us cheat ourselves
and others by trying to get our place in the sun.

Hate arrogance, especially in myself (creeps up sometimes,
and gets in the way of real communication).

The class system in this country is getting bad enough that
I worry about my childrens' future in the society of the
		21st century.

Like .185, I should probably provide some background to the occasional
    contributions here:

Alan Scott, age 37, single, back with DEC around 2 years, also worked
here for 2 years in the mid-70s. Work background is software
engineering and MIS - I currently work for FMIC (Field Manufacturing
Information Centre) in an MIS technology group.

I'm originally from the north of England (Carlisle, Cumberland), but
lived around Glasgow, Scotland, on and off for about 30 years.

Interests include modest hill-walking, beer, cinema, work.

I'm sorry, I forgot to sign too. I've been an active reader and

    Personal life:

I am single (again, after 11 years of marriage), and
I'm finally beginning to enjoy it some. I have two
little girls, Juli age 7 and Kelley age 3 1/2. They
are my pride and joy and take up most of my time when
    		I'm not here.

I have been working at DEC for about 8 years, but less
than 1 year as a real DEC employee. (Which I am very
    		proud of...)

Well, I apologize for not introducing myself before this.

    Hi people...

I won't kid ya' (not often anyway)...been with DEC for about a month
and have found it thoroughly interesting so far. (DEC isn't like
most big companies is it.) I'm from Ohio (the heart of America),
but have lived in Michigan, Delaware, and New York since (still live
    in N.Y.)

Spent many a year, and lots of time and energy, trying to get BIG
companies to do (what I thought were) intelligent things. Never
tried DEC, but the ones I did approach couldn't bring themselves
to promise me they wouldn't steal my idea if I told them. So...
you guessed it, I didn't hand out many ideas.

Anyway, I'm committed to what I'm doing now (Software Consultant,
Upstate New York District), and hope to do whatever I can to reach
the 2007 company goal. 'Told these people I'd work for them as
long as I could tell the truth and still like the guy I see in the
mirror every morning. Hope to check this conference at least once
    a week.

Speaking of the truth. Now I know you all may find it just a little
bizarre to think that some nobody from Ohio has figured it all out...
so I won't tell you anything of the sort. But if anyone ever asks
you " is it real ?" or better yet " what does it all mean? "...then
just tell 'em to contact me. (I'll really confuse 'em.)

I'm the happiest person I know, next to my best friend, who just
happens to be my wife, and my two kids. (Come to think of it my
dog, "COSMO" may be happier than me...but I doubt it.)

    Particulars:

    Name: Terry Wright
    Age: 00100101
    Family: 1 great lady, 2 terrific kids (girl 16; boy 11) 3 cats;
and one fun dog (COSMO..the Great Protector)
Interests: High Energy and particle physics, relativity, quantum
mechanics, cosmology, music, history, couple of sports,
reality from a long distance perspective, survival of
                living things
Biggest worry: If there are extraterrestrials watching us...(or
reading our notes files), what must they think about
a civilization so unbalanced (500 million people
                    sleep hungry every night), which I'll call barbaric;
and which spends probably 2 thirds of its economic
might developing things to end it all with. (Maybe
if they are watching us, they are advanced enough
    		    not to stereotype).
Favorite thought: The TRUTH is the reality of every moment of time
that passes, as perceived by all living things capable of perceiving
the passage of time. And since we all live on this one little ball,
each with his/her own reality, but each interacting with the whole
(therefore establishing reality interfaces), the truth manifests
itself as the edge of time (no foolin') The truth is ABSOLUTE.

What I pity most: Greedy people
What gets my dander up: Big companies with the resources to do
nice things (even profitable), but suffer from the NIH syndrome.

Parting thought: Pain is energy flowing backwards in time.

    Grins to all
    T

Hi. My name is Betty Allan. I have been at DEC for a little
over 7 years. Am currently Admin Sec for a product management

I am destined to be kept forever young by my offspring!!!!!
We (the whole family) love sailing. We have worked our way
up over the years from a 14' sailboat to a 42' Pearson Ketch.

I am new to notes but have been reading extensively in the Human
Relations conference which I find very amusing as well as
interesting. I am interested in others thoughts/feelings on the
subject of alcohol and its effect on family as my 21 yr old son
is having serious problems and I agree that it is a family disease.

Love this conference and will be heard from from time to time.

    i never did introduce myself...
    so here goes....!

    rik
tired of dealing with primitive subcultures

self-satisified in the secure kowledge that i have thus far
grown far beyond the AVERAGE wage class 4 college educated
    digital noter.

tried to enlighten them and help them to grow...
"when a superior civilization meets a lesser civilization
the lesser is absorbed into the superior"

"when a superior culture meets a more primitive culture and
the primitive culture is performing rituals that are obviously
uncivilized and barbaric...*primitives removing the clitoris
from all woman*..should the superior culture intervene?"

    	i thought so....so i tried...
and I know i was successful to some extent!
perhaps not many replied in the affirmative acknowledgment but
i did recieve lots of vaxmail from people who said...
    	"you tell em rik!"
    	and things like that...
of course, i got lots of mail from moderators telling me not
to insult noters after i insulted some noter (or 30) who
    had just insulted me...
did any of you who insulted me (you know who you are) get
mail from the moderators about that?
    	congratulating you?

must be nice to have high school cliques in the business world.

so, since dealing with primitive sub-cultures on pagan rituals like
marriage, divorce, social and political issues...
    is such a bore...

    i shan't say...Hi! Here I am!
i shall say ..(what? no trumpets? no fanfare? no...sorry to see
    you go?)

i'm leaving human relations (the NOTE, silly, not the planet...)
and i doubt that i'll return soon...

playing house and little childrens games is just not my idea
    of fun.
never would have made it as a kiddy teacher....
you have nothing to offer me except old, primitive opinions
    that i outgrew years ago.......
    	and abuse...

of course, i'm not stating that i wasn't abusive in return..
    	i was!
but i feel that i only resorted to abuse and insults after
they had been generously tossed in my direction first....

i recognize that i've made some enemies
    	and i'm sorry about that.
my intent was not to anger you....but to enlighten you...
    	some of you already understood
some of you came to understand
many of you will probably never understand...

    	i wish you well
    	i wish you happiness
i wish you growth in all ways....

    Hi, I'm a temp at HL0 waiting for an offer I can't refuse. I'm
trying to catch up on the notes so I may never have time to reply.
It's interesting how some people take offense to things that seem
so honest and straight forward, and I have taken offense at comments
that do not seem to bother anyone at all. I guess that's what Human
Relations is all about. I feel like I'm getting to know some of
you (I also feel kind of like a peeping tom!!!)

I'm looking forward to joining in on these notes, if I ever catch

Age 40, married about 8 months, one kid under construction, due
    in December.
I've been with DEC almost 19 years (egad!), mostly as a millrat.
I started off testing PDP-8 and PDP-12 software, moved on to
programming PDP-8s, moved on to programming PDP-11s, got tired
of programming and became a technical writer.
Interests include metalworking, home repairs, and reading (mostly
    non-fiction).
I've been through all kinds of old-age and new-age therapy, some
of which I think actually helped. I feel pretty good about life,
and about me. Which is quite a change from how I felt about 12
years ago. Back then I felt, as my therapist would say, "Lower
than dog shit." I may share some of what's happened, as time goes
on, with the rest of you. Life is an interesting experience.

Professionally: I've been with Digital since October 1987 (7
months already!) working on an Ada project for a customer in
the Great Plains district. The work and the people are lots
of fun. Of course, *any* programmer who's learning a new
language finds it fun! Before here I worked as a programmer
for an avionics company for five years.

Personally: I've been living with/married to my best friend
since May 1983. We don't have kids or a TV :) or cats :(.
We jokingly claim that the *real* sign of commitment in our
relationship occurred when we decided to merge our book
collections, several months after our wedding. At the moment
we've had to build stacks in the library because we've run
out of wall space. I like to read science fiction and
fantasy, and have recently been branching out into
feminist-related non-fiction, some of which is fascinating
    and some dreadfully boring.

My current personal name is from an SF story that I found
passing fair--but I really loved the title. Not having the
golden ability to turn a pretty phrase, I borrow.

I expect (hope) to be able to keep my fingers away from the
keyboard long enough to read for a while before writing.

I've been reading/writing/replying to notes for only a couple months
now. I'm active in this file, WOMANNOTES, DEC_SECRETARY, and peek

It's been quite a while since I signed in and since I haven't
written any notes in that time I thought I'd reintroduce myself.

You can find me on a regular basis in WOMANNOTES,EQUITATION and
various technical notesfiles. I'm liesl kolbe and I work at
CXO-03 in Information Services the STARS/DSIN/FSIN support group.
We do data. :*) <-- someone once accused me of spelling this
       wrong.

I've been separated from my husband for just under a year and
after a winter of hiding in the computer room I decided it was
time to pick up the pieces and get on with my life. I am addicted
to notes in a big way as they remind me of my college days when
my friends (male and female) would sit around till late at night
discussing all the same topics we cover here.

I'm loud, emotional and passionate about the things I care about.
Ask anyone that's been in a meeting with me! If you're in CXO-03
you can usually find me by following the laughter. liesl

Well, I've been reading H_R for some time now, and have
dabbled in a few notes. I think I'm going to be 'dabbling'
more and more, so I figure I better formally introduce myself
(or informally, as the case may be! :-) ).

My name is Amy, and I'm a software engineer at the Mill.
I've been with DEC for a little over a year now, after graduating
	from Tufts University.

I'd have to say my interests are pretty diverse - I love music,
and the arts, as well as sports, books and lots of other things.
I love to laugh, and I'm trying to get the most I can from life.
I've learned a lot about myself over the past year, and finally
feel good about who I am, and what I'm doing. I think this file,
and the people in it are really terrific - lots of support,
advice, and various opinions. Just from reading for a while, I
feel like I already know some of you (that and descriptions
from a friend who does probably helps too! :-) ).

I've also starting reading WOMANOTES and MENNOTES so you may see
    	me there too.

Feel free to drop me a note anytime - I love mail almost as much
	as NOTES ( sometimes more)!

    Hi,

I thought since I entered a reply that I should introduce myself.
My name is bob and I have been reading H_R for about a year and
a half. Don't asked me what prompted me to enter a reply after a
year and a half because I don't know. Maybe it is the full moon.

I have been with DEC for just over 2 years. I work in Littleton
Ma. as a CAD engineer. We just went through a project cancellation
and a re-org, what an experience that was. I just began my new job
under the the re-org and I am very happy with it.

I am into all different things, a list too long for here. I
love anything to do with the summer and I am sorry to see another
one go. I'll take hot, hazy, and humid over sub-zero temperatures any
day. I tend to be a little bit of an instigator, but never mean
    any harm by it.

    Hi,

I guess it's about time I introduce myself, I have already
entered several notes in here and nobody knows who I am (a few
    do).

Well, my name is Bill, I work from 6pm to 2am as a computer
operator in Marlboro. I also go to school during the day at the
University of Lowell. I'm majoring in Applied Physics and Studio
Art (Double Major). As you would guess from my being in school
still I'm only 21. (Although I really could have been any age,
some people in my classes are 50+). I have worked at DEC only since
July. Actually, I was here 84-85 working in Hudson on Co-Op for
high school but that was a while ago.

That's about it, I also read MENNOTES, WOMENNOTES and SINGLES
(and a few others) in case you are wondering. If you want to send
MAIL I'm on XCELR8::AKINS( if you don't want to use MCIS2)

I've been with Digital a little over 6 years now. I started with
RSX Development at Spit Brook as an engineer (I thought they'd
let me play with trains). Three years ago I realized that I'd
been in Boston for too long (born and bred) and needed a change
in life, so I moved to Colorado. I've now found a second home.
I miss my city, however I love the mountains, so I try giving
	myself adequate doses of each.

I met Steve at the party out here on Saturday, tried his mousse
and started reading this conference in the hope of finding the
recipe. I guess I have a lot of replies to go through still :^)

Of all the beauty and uniqueness of life, I feel its most
rewarding and interesting aspect is our 'human relations'.
I enjoy being with other people, having fun, talking, laughing,
experiencing this beautiful state and generally just sharing
	life.

I'm soon to be 30 and feel that "something wonderful is going
to happen". Last time I felt this way I moved to Colorado, and
the time before that I went to Europe. I enjoy riding my motorcycle,
listening to music (with a definite soft spot for jazz) and dancing.
Most recently I am learning to defy the laws of gravity in a small
airplane, which is a definite rush.

In deference to another discussion in here, I often feel a little
boy in a big world (I like apple picking but only if I can hang out
in the trees). This side of me is finally comfortable with the
reality of the man and there is a definite mutual respect.

People make life experiences so much more rewarding, and I'm really
glad to have found this conference.

It has just occurred to me that I have never put an introduction into
    this file.

My name is Holly Taylor. I am a secretary here in Westford for the
    Desktop Systems group.

I started noting in here about 6 months ago. Although I am basically a
read only, but I will voice my opinion when I feel it is needed (or
when I can relate to something). Many of you know me from other files
    (Friends, Feline, etc.).

As the wonderful Doctah said, there are a lot of interesting subjects
in this file. I enjoy it a lot and look forward to a lot more.

I've been with DEC for 2 1/2 years and like the company's philosophy
about its people very much. I'm currently investigating the field of
human factors engineering -- if you know of any good graduate programs,
let me know! I'm fascinated by human-computer interfaces and how they
can affect productivity. (All of which has little to do with writing
manuals on CAD tools for chip design...!)

Outside of work, I live in Brookline close to the pulse of the big
city. I love to read (esp. psychological science fiction and mysteries,
although I've recently read a slew of eighteenth-century novels for
some reason) and love to sing. I'm in a 12-woman a cappella group
called the Copley Cats. Movies are a great hobby as well.

I look forward to reading more in this notesfile -- seems like a nice
group of people! I'm mostly read-only but do write when I think I have
    something to offer.

Hi, I'm Scott Lutz. I've been a read-only member of this conference since
January this year.

Like many other folks (I gather), I stepped in here for wisdom and experience
to refer to while recovering from troubled times. In my case, it was a broken
engagement. :-( Reading the problems and advice here helped to put things in
perspective. (I thought *I* had troubles! :-) Now I'm at the point where
it's all like combat experience. ("How can you tell if it's actually combat
or if it's only combat experience?" "If you survive, it's combat experience.")

These days I read HR from interest, curiosity, and still to catch some wisdom.
Most of the people here are helpful and thoughtful, though I *don't* always
agree with their opinions. :) The discussions are certainly interesting!
I shall probably be more vocal now that I have -- gasp! -- revealed myself,
but I doubt if I'll contribute heavily.

I also show up from time to time in the notesfiles on Comics, FRP, and SF.

And I'll probably invite myself to the party at Steve's, just to meet all
the people that I've been listening to all this time.

Well, since I've broken my silence and actually entered a note (gasp, shock,
horror!) I thought I'd introduce myself. I only found out about HR notes a
few weeks ago and have been reading through old notes ever since.

My name's Hugh Thomas and I'm a software engineer in NaC, Sydney, Australia.
I'm 31 and have worked at DEC for about 2 1/2 years.

More details in WHOAREYOU #1045 if anyone's interested.

Can also be found in MOVIE/TV notes among others.

Well if even the Doctah can bring himself to enter an intro,
            I guess it's about time I did :-).

A thought on human relations that I've had more than a few
            times --

... If only human relations could procede as logically and
predictably as state diagrams ... or if only when problems
(relating to yourself or others) arise they could be solved
by simply applying logic without having to factor in complex
            emotions and irrational feelings...

Nah...that would be too easy (and boring, right :-)?) But
it certainly would lower the exasperation level I feel
(mostly in understanding myself; sometimes in dealing with
            others).

Something strange and unusual about myself I've not
            mentioned in other notes intros...

I was an extra in the movie Jaws 3-D, filmed at Sea World in
Orlando, along with some others on my high school swim team.
I am _somewhere_ in the beach scene and near the shark tank.
My claim to fame from the whole experience is knowing the
guy that whispers "Get out of the water, asshole!"

(and if you're curious about anything else, in WomanNotes-v2
            2.193 I wrote a [very] long intro.)

Monday I start a new job down in CT dealing with those mythical creatures known
as customers. In fact I will be spending the majority of my time at customer
sites.

Needless to say, I won't have much time for NOTES. I will miss you all, and I
will think of you while I am far out in the hinderlands of DEC. Those who want
to, can keep in touch by MAIL to YODA::BARANSKI, until I find out what other
network address I will have.

This will be a number of major changes in my life, turning it mostly upside
down. There are a lot of unknowns and fears about moving to a new area, new job
new people and everything. But sometimes there's nothing you can do about the
fears, except face them... and hope for the best. I've reached the point that
I've stopped thinking about it much, because it's all worry. I'm sure that this
is something that I want to do, but there's a lot of unknowns that I don't feel
that I have any control over. Also, this is the first time that I've moved that
I didn't 'have' to. It's easier to stay in a comfortable rut, or be pushed
along by events; it's harder for me to decide what I want in the midst of so
many possibilities, be sure of that decision, and work toward a set goal.

Take Care, All,
Jim.

Guess it's time to sign in here. I'm trying to re-introduce myself to
Noting, and am trying to become active in Womannotes. So here goes for
    Human Relations.

My name is Barbara Welch. I used to work in Marlbor at GIA, but came
to Franklin (FXO) in May of this year. The difference in driving 52
miles round trip and 10 is like night and day.

I am a widow, 54 years old and live in the town of Norfolk which is the
next town East of Franklin. I live alone with my three cats in a small
apartment on the edge of a beautiful little lake in Norfolk and am very
fortunate to live there as it is very country and very relaxing.

I am a Secretary for the ASIC Center which is a Design and Applications
Engineering Group here in Franklin. I have never done any work with
Engineers before, and it does take some getting used to. I am enjoying
it immensely though, and the people I am working with are terrific.

I'm going to try harder not to be just "Read Only" as I was before in
Marlboro. Participation adds much to one's knowledge, and increases
the circle of friends we all want and need so much.

So, Hi, and it's going to be nice to be part of this File....

I'm working as secretary for the Sales Eastern Europe Division since I

It helped me a lot to see that I'm not alone with my problems, to see

    Hi all,

Since I entered a reply guess I better sign in too and get rid of
the mystery status... or at least begin to ;-). Hee hee.

Anyway, I live in Northboro, work at MR03 in a Training & Development
group, (if you could call 2 people a group :-)) and pretty much 'grew
up'at DEC. I started here in 1973, at age 19, left in '83 for 5 years
to see the world outside of DEC sorta speak, got scared, (just kidding)
    and returned 2 years ago.

Although I had a 'promising' career in business systems analysis, by the
time I returned to DEC in '88 I made a transition to human resource
development and it was the best move I made - for it's where my heart
    and life purpose lies.

I note occasionally in DEJAVU and CHRISTIAN-PERSPECTIVE and am one of
the co-mods in "C-P". My interests are varied, but I particularly enjoy
drumming and dancing, a good cup of cappuccino, the Celtics, and my
life orientation is aligned more with the spirituality of native peoples
than with anything else. If I were to apply a 'label' I would call
myself a "Creation Spiritualist", if you are familiar with the works
of the 'renegade' Dominican Priest, Matthew Fox. :-)

I see a lot of familiar node-faces here :-) and I'm looking forward to
meeting more of you and gettin' down wi' y'all.

    later,

This is my thirteenth year at DEC; I'm currently a Principal Software Engineer
for the VAX FORTRAN development group at the ZKO facility in Nashua. I'm also
host-moderator of three other notes conferences as well as co-moderator of
many (too many, sometimes) more.

					Steve

P.S. While preparing this entry, I happened to scan through the list of
earlier introductions - I was delighted to see so many names of people I later
got to meet in person, some of whom became good friends. This conference is
now over five years old, and I've hosted it here on QUARK almost all its life.
It's given me a lot of pleasure over the years, and I hope for many more.

Just found this note, looks interesting and maybe contains answers to some of
life's little problems. For the time being, I am looking at various topics to see
what is applicable to me and maybe toss in my 2 cents worth when required.

With DEC now about 8 years in various rolls, currently in the subsidiary
operations, Toronto, Canada. Started with DEC as an CS engineer fixing DECsystem
10's and 20's before getting into mis-management, then onto the region.

Problems, yup, just like a handful of others, divorced, disillusioned,
searching, finding, confused, lost, well that about covers it.

just recently joined in here, after having this file recommended in addition to the
couple others I read regularly........hopefully, once I get more familiar with the
goings-on here, I'll have a few questions of my own on "human relations" !!!!

Been with DEC for 10-1/2 years (give or take a month or two :-)) ; outside of DEC (yes,
I have learned that there IS life outside of DEC but it took me a while !! :-} ), I
have an almost 7-year old son, two dogs (just got the new puppy a couple weeks ago)
and just became an official HOME OWNER. Looking forward to doing some remodeling in
the not-too-distant future.

Work in Marlboro (MRO1-2) and live in Leominster.

Looking forward to reading AND writing here,

Signing in, a little late.. but I've been an avid reader of this conference for
a while. You all have some interesting and wonderful opinions, and thats
what makes the world go around. Human relations?? probably one of the most
challenging but rewarding activity to do. Me? Still learning.... and won't
stop...

Been with Dec since 1987 and currently work in MLO. I've been in information
systems all my career. I'm divorced with two kids.

No hint. I don't like acting like a hit-and-run noter. I try to read a
conference to get an idea of the atmosphere before I jump in and open my
mouth. I just don't have the time to do that right now.

Hi,

My name is Dianne Archey. I'm 23 and kinda single! I work as a Project Support
Specialist for New Zealand's Application Development Centre, in Christchurch.
Yes, there are actually a few Digit's in New Zealand. I'm not actually a 'real'
Digit but am posing as one! I have been working here on a contract basis since
November last year, hope to be here for a few more months.

I have been reading this conference for about a month now. I am so glad that I
found it, as I am having a few problems too. You have all given me food for
thought, I hope to be able to continue to read and hopefully contribute now and
again to this conference.

If anyone wants to send me mail try CCAD39::ARCHEY, I've never had any overseas
VAXmail before.

Don't be surprised if the next intro note you read is from my neighbour, she is
waiting for me to finish this, to see what I've written. she's too scared to put
a note into this before me!

Regards
Di

Larry,

Precipitevolissimevolmente means very hurriedly, in a great rush.

There is a proverb that says:

"Chi troppo in alto sale, cade sovente precipitevolissimevolmente"

                               =

"The higher you climb the faster you fall"
