1266.0. "Unknown Vax7000-600 series" by GLOWS::BANHO (Without music life would be a mistake) Fri May 23 1997 15:51

    Greetings,

I would appreciate someones help with the following problem:

The customer has 2 Vax 7610s believed to be identical. The output of
the $sho cpu command differs on the two.

The one behaving as we would expect returns:

    System2, a Vax 7000-610

    The one misbehaving returns:

    System1, a Unknown Vax 7000-600 series

All other output is the same.

The system in question is running VMS 5.5-2
    The firmware rev = v4.3-4842
    The SROM rev = V3.1-0
    The SYS SN = NI631031PS

The CPU module was replaced in an attempt to resolve this but it did
not do so. I don't know the rev of the current board but the original
    (which I assume to be good) is a E2059-AA Rev A02 AY62915399.

I can log into the system but I cannot bring it down to execute any
    console commands until next week.

The system is running fine but we are concerned that we may run into
problems updating licences in the future. I do not know if this system
has ever "seen" itself as anything other than a Unknown Vax 7000-600
    series.

I have very little familiarity with this system type so the resolution
may be a very simple one. Any and all ideas are appreciated.

1266.1Unknown Vax7000-600 series - What CPu moduleCSC32::BULLIONFri May 23 1997 21:5319

     If system1 has a E2059-AA its a vax7800 cpu running VMS 5.5-2
environment variable COMPAT_MODE set to v55 so it will show as
a vax7600. See Release Notes for VER 4.3 firmware, page 13.

I do not remember if the "unknown" part of "a Unknown Vax 7000-600
series" is normal in this case.

What CPU module is in system2 - maybe its really a vax7600 with
A E2045 cpu module ?? so it shows correct.
