483.0. "Maynard is on the World-Wide Web" by PRAGMA::GRIFFIN (Dave Griffin) Wed Jan 04 1995 15:44

It's just a start, but a web has been created for little ol' Maynard Massachusetts.

I dare say we are the first small town on the Internet -- if not, we're in the single
digits (not that it matter one bit who is first, etc..)

  http://www.ultranet.com/~maynard/

I hope to transition this to a school project over the year or so. If you have
ideas/contributions for Maynard's Web please send them to me (or to the address on
the pages).

    if you lookup there are a lot of startup companies on the web in
    maynard also.

And at least one relatively well-established one too.... :-)

A business directory is planned, but I want it to be somewhat less haphazard
than just tossing names in the barrel.

    how are you getting your names, through the state??

    just wondering

    Sorry, guess I mis-read what you said from note 483.2.

Yes, I'd like to see Maynard businesses listed. I have no idea
about how I'm going to get the list. Something other than riding around
in my car seemed appropriate.

Sorry if this isn't what I said earlier...

    well the first stop should be town hall, they have a listing of all
    business's that have a license.

    next I would go to the Chamber of Commerce ; not all business's in town
    belong,

    then you can get info from the state (revenue Dept)on who holds a Tax id
    number if they are doing a (doing business as). ( should really have a
    town business license too but all don't.

Thanks for the leads....

[Where did you get a list of companies from Maynard that have
 Web pages? -- I know of a handful of companies (4-6) but not enough to
 label as "a lot"...]

- dave
483.9LANDO::CANSLERFri Jan 06 1995 19:465

    from ultranet.com, www.astranet.com, www.dbinsa.com (dun & Bradstreet)

    if I can find the list I will send it to you.

483.10If you'd like to help...PRAGMA::GRIFFINDave GriffinFri Jan 20 1995 21:0519
If anyone is interested in picking up a part of this little project
(or adding on) please drop me a line.

In particular if you are involved in a civic group that might like
some wider exposure (with the possibility of getting linkages with
other organizations), or if you just want to "show off" the town
so that it becomes more attractive for new folks or businesses -- this
is one way that doesn't involve a lot of money... (the audience,
admittedly, is a bit narrow nowadays -- but getting wider by the day).

I don't have any ties to the Boy Scouts, Boys&Girls Club, or the
Chamber of Commerce... But if you do, give this a thought...

- dave

[p.s. you don't have to learn how to use this -- just mail me brochures,
or press releases, or other stuff (electronically or on paper) and I'll
do the rest...]
483.11PRAGMA::GRIFFINDave GriffinTue Feb 21 1995 12:2615
I've added a "Dining Out in Maynard" section, with an attempt at
providing a restaurant directory.

If anybody knows of an eating establishment that isn't listed, please
let me know (and if somebody has gone out of business, that too..)

If you happen to know any missing details, or have a nice short summary
of the place, pass them along.

[p.s. I know Erikson's is missing...]

483.12Maynard, where are you???RDVAX::TOIVONENFri Sep 29 1995 20:023
    I tried unsuccessfully to access on the web and keep getting an error
    message, a server error. Is the access still the same?

483.1310166::needleMoney talks. Mine says "Good-Bye!"Sun Oct 01 1995 00:087
I'm accessing it right now with no problems. What error are you seeing?
I don't think there are any problems on the Ultranet end.

Dave, when are you going to send wgwf to Ultranet so we can make Maynard
the first interactive town on the web :-)?

Jeff (not a Maynard resident, but my next-door neighbors are :-) ).

    I am accessing it with no errors. what URL are you using

    My error. I used this " in the address instead of ~.

    Today I did get on...very impressive! It is slow access but that
    seems typical of the web.

We've got a major revamp of the Maynard web occurring in October.
Keep an eye on it! (More civic orgs, new graphics, community calendar
updates, and some other goodies).

As far as Workgroup Web Forum for Maynard -- we'll I've certainly
thought about it. (Got a linux port brewing now, so...)
