354.0. "CVS" by AKOCOA::LESAGE () Thu Feb 13 1992 14:34

    At Tuesday's Planning Board meeting Lehigh Realty trust came to see
    about renovating the Sokoloff building. Lehigh has been contracted by
    CVS to do this project. Within in the next few weeks a building permit
    will be acquired by Lehigh and construction will begin. CVS plans to
    be in operation sometime this year.

354.1What's going into Woolworth's then?ULTRA::DONAHUEOH! Do you still work here?Thu Feb 13 1992 14:585
    Well, it looks like CVS will be taking over the Sokoloff Building.
    This leaves me to wonder what will happen with the old Woolworths.
    Boy! It sure seems funny seeing that store empty!!

354.3A shame to see them tear down all those bricksPRNSYS::LOMICKAJJeffrey A. LomickaWed Sep 02 1992 17:342
Too bad - I thought it was the nicest looking building in all the
downtown shopping area. I hope they don't totally ruin it.

354.5Facade commentsSENIOR::IGNACHUCKNative MaynardianThu Sep 03 1992 01:5313
    Regarding the brick facade, I agree with Alice.

    While I like brickwork, I was never real sure that the bricks in
    the Sokoloff Building were placed in a manner that would compliment the
    adjacent architecture of the Nason Street retail environment. It
    is my hope that CVS will find a way to blend in some of the brickwork
    while restoring the facade to better fit the character and charm of
    Nason Street.

    Aside to the Moderators: Notice how I carefully worded my remarks
    to comply to Notesfile standards?

354.6RAMBLR::MORONEYIs the electric chair UL approved?Thu Sep 03 1992 03:219
I'll agree with the last couple - while Maynard doesn't have any real marvels
of architecture downtown, it does have a bit of a character that building never
fit into.

Regarding facades, the ex-Woolworth building could look a whole lot nicer
easily if the current owners would fix up more than what's going to be
occupied by the video place. The second-floor windows, etc.

    it appears that the CVS construction will leave most of the facade
    intact. it looks as if they have bricked up the former entrance in
    favor of creating a new side entrance.

    CVS is now open - it's located next to the Outdoor Store. I'm real
    happy they are here.
