    Darlene, all water contains Flouride.

In a prior life, I worked in a local municipal government, located
roughly exactly east of Maynard, which added flouride to its'
municipal water supply. Let me share with you what I know and
    remember.

Flouride is a natural component in water. In this area the natural
level of Flouride is about one tenth of a part per million parts of
water. The recommended level of Flouride to inhibit tooth decay is
one part per million. Many towns, therefore, add Flouride to their
public water supply to increase the level to the recommended level.
It may be of interest to note that some water supplies, most notably
in the southwest part of our country, contain too much Flouride,
which can, in fact, cause other dental problems, like a greying of
    teeth, loss of enamel, etc.

Since I left the public sector, there have been many improvements in
the distribution of Flouride. The need for system-wide Flouride
treatment has been greatly reduced by localized treatment.

Some towns, like Maynard, rather than institute a town-wide
Flouridation program, have gone to a Flouride treatment program in
the schools. I need some help here to ascertain that the program
is still in place in Maynard, but I think it is.

In addition, most local dentists now do a Flouride rinse during the
    general checkup.

I do know that the Flouride program in the Maynard School system has
helped my two oldest sons (age 11 and 9). Neither has ever had a
cavity or any dental problem due primarily to the Maynard School
    treatment.

    Thanks Frank.

My family has been living in Maynard for a little over three years now.
I was in Arizona for about 10 years and certain areas there did not
have enough flouride so we either had to buy flouridated water or have
the pediatrician prescribe flouride for the kids. When we moved to
Maynard, I noticed the bottled water here did not contain flouride and
never did get a sufficient answer to this question before now, although the
pediatrician here did prescribe flouride tablets for my son to take.

You are right about the flouride treatments in the schools. I know
at least for the last two years that the parents have had to sign a
statement that it was alright for the schools to administer the treatment
    to the kids.

    Just as an aside...

I have enjoyed this notesfile. Although we have been renting, we are
in the process of buying a house here and I hope to become more active in
the community. Maynard has definitely grown on us.
