232.0. "When/how were streets in Maynard named?" by PUTTER::WARFIELD (Gone Golfing) Fri Jun 08 1990 12:17

I've noticed that there are several streets near the Lower Thompson
street parking lot the same name as Union Civil War Generals. For
example Sherman, Burnside. Being a little rusty on the Union side
I haven't look up all the other generals to see if they have streets.
(Tho I'm a native New Englander, the Southern General were much more
	interesting.)

Since the Mill was active during the Civil War I was curious. Does
anyone know anything about when/how these streets were named? What
other Union general streets are there?

Larry, having fouled up this conference on several occasions, I have
attempted to answer your question in note 215.24 (Maynard History).

    Any idea where 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th street came from?

They probably don't have as romantic origin as some of the others
(unless they are the first 5 Maynard streets !). And what about Old Mill -
and did it ever join the Old Mill off of 117 at the cemetary?
