160.0. "Lawn Mowing, etc. services" by PRAGMA::GRIFFIN (Dave Griffin) Sat Jun 10 1989 22:58

Any recommendations for lawn-mowing / trimming services in Maynard. I
have a fairly large yard, and I think I'd rather spend my time doing
    other yardwork.

Before I call around, I was wondering if there were any good names or
    price samples to pick from.

    Thanks,

160.1Here's OneATREUS::MARINERMon Jun 12 1989 14:049
I live in Sudbury and use a fellow from Maynard. He isn't too
knowledgeable about treating lawns but he cuts O.K., is reliable and
neat. His name is Vincent Ranucci. I am at work now and the only
number I can find in the telephone book is probably his father, if it
isn't correct contact me and I can look it up at home, in the meantime
    try 897-2169.

160.3A few...PRAGMA::GRIFFINDave GriffinThu Jun 22 1989 17:0919
I called and got bids from 3 companies:

  Designscape 897-5025
  P. H. Casey Landscape 897-6008
  Nelson's Yard Service 897-1530

[plan on some telephone tag with their answering machines]

All came by within a day or so and dropped off their bids.

I chose Designscape because of their price, which was about $8 lower than the
next lowest estimate. The estimate is on a per-visit basis and the visits
end up being every 7-8 days during the growth seasons (spring, early summer),
stretch out to as much as 14 days during the dry mid-summer (august), and
will pick up again in early fall.

The first visit was yesterday and I was real pleased with the results.

Can you give some idea of how large your yard is and what the estimates
    were that you received?

Re: .4

Sure - I didn't post them because I don't know what goes into their estimate
and they seemed pretty anxious to give them.

My lot is a pretty standard width (~100 ft) and about 300 ft. long. I have
lot of trees, including a small pine forest in the middle, a large garden area,
and the riverbank, all which are not mowed.

The estimates ranged from $20/visit to about $35.

I use Lydon Lawn Service out of Maynard. Bob Sebastyen. Charges $25
for my lawn -- about 9000 sq. ft. Does excellent job.

                                              897-3179 ask for Greg

A friend of mine has them do her yard regularly and she is very
        happy with their service.

They don't do my yard, but, Greg's partner, Ron, does carpentry
and did my roof two weeks ago. He was very organized and
efficient and did an excellent job. There were torrential downpours
a day after it was done and no leaks.

They give free estimates and are doing fall cleanups now.
