116.0. "Race for state representative" by SKETCH::SHUBIN (when's lunch?) Mon Aug 22 1988 15:36

    Anyone have any feelings on the election for state rep? We've been
    redistricted, and won't have the same representative (Pat Walrath)
    anymore. The new incumbent is Lucille Hicks, who currently represents
    Sudbury and Wayland. Her opponent is Mark Collins, who has an
    office on Nason Street, where the Maynard Gold Outlet was before it
    moved across the street. (I think I got all that right; if not, someone
    add corrections.)

    I don't know much about either of them. Collins was interviewed in the
    Beacon a few weeks ago, but he didn't seem to answer any of the
    questions, so I don't really know where he stands.

    It could be that we're more well-served by a representative who lives in
    Maynard (Collins) than one who doesn't, especially when the other one
    lives in a more wealthy town, and has been representing them. On the
    other hand, I don't know much about either one's record, and those facts
    are more important than their addresses.

               Cile Hicks represents Maynard,Wayland,and Sudbury. She
    lives in Wayland. I don't know much about either of them but sure
    would like to find out.I'll have to take a walk downtown.
                The Beacon has been publishing a nifty little feature
    about how rep's have been voting on different issues. It's in the
    paper each week and you can follow Hick's voting record there.

116.2DebateDINER::SHUBINThe honeymoon's over...Wed Oct 12 1988 11:555
    There'll be a debate between Hicks and Collins, moderated by George
    Shaw on 27 October. The Beacon didn't mention where it'd be, but I'm
    sure they'll let us know.

116.3Local Election ResultsSYSENG::MORGANWed Nov 09 1988 15:0534
    The election results are in. Cile Hicks won the state rep. election.
    It breaks down as follows:

    Town		Candidate		# of votes
    ----		---------		----------
    Maynard		Hicks			1904
    Maynard		Collins			3138

    Sudbury		Hicks			5204
    Sudbury		Collins			3161

    Wayland		Hicks			5113
    Wayland		Collins			1941

    So if my arithmetic is correct Cile Hicks had 12,221 votes to 8,240
    for Mark Collins.

    ****************************************************************************

    Maynard had a turnout of 5245 voters. I'm not sure what the actual
    number is for registered voters, but I believe it's somewhere in
    the neighborhood of 6000, so the turnout was very high. The
    presidential election was VERY close and somewhat surprising in
    Maynard. It breaks down as follows:

    Dukakis		2535
    Bush		2522
    New Alliance Cand.    12
    Civ. Lib. Candidate   62

    I don't know the local results for the referendum questions.
